LIV Golf Andalucia preview: Everything you need to know

LIV Golf Andalucia preview: Everything you need to know

The 2025 LIV Golf League returns to Europe this week as Valderrama hosts the tenth event of the season

Following a two-week break, LIV Golf Andalucia is the next stop on the calendar this week.

The tenth event of the 2025 season is also the first to be held in Europe, and it comes just a week prior to the Open Championship.

A total of 19 LIV Golfers are in the field for Royal Portrush, and they will use the event as an ideal chance to fine-tune their game. Of course, Valderrama isn’t a links course, but it is one of the finest in Europe.

Last time out at LIV Golf Dallas, Patrick Reed finally claimed his maiden individual victory, prevailing in a playoff at Maridoe Golf Club.

Joaquin Niemann is the runaway leader this season, however. The Chilean has won four of the first nine events and hasn’t finished lower than 33rd in any tournament.

He currently leads the standings by an impressive 35 points, although Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau will be chasing him down in Spain.

Elsewhere, Sergio Garcia, fresh after claiming a spot at the Open, will look to defend his title. He won in his homeland in 2024, and he sits fifth in the standings.

Crushers GC lead the way regarding the team standings, but Legion XIII and Fireballs GC are hot on their tails.

With only three more individual events after this week, Valderrama represents a chance for those to make up ground on the leaders.

Course details: Real Club Valderrama

Valderrama really is one of the crown jewels of continental European courses. Designed by Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1974,

The Andalucian course was eventually renamed Valderrama, and by 1999, it was named as the best golf course in continental Europe.

Having hosted the Ryder Cup (1997), WGC American Express Championship (1999) and European Tour events such as the Volvo Masters, the Andalucía Masters, and the Spanish Open, Valderrama is a proven challenge.

Last year, it ranked as the hardest with regards to cumulative team score (-5) across all venues in the LIV Golf League.

The tight fairways suggest a strategic approach is required off the tee, while fast, undulating putting surfaces will test even the finest putters in the league.

The true genius of Valderrama is in its variety. No two holes are the same, ranging from the short par-3s to uphill par-4s, each hole presets a stiff challenge to the golfer.

LIV Golf Andalucia 2025: Format and prize fund

LIV Golf Andalucia will be played over 54 holes across three days, with a shotgun start each day and no cut.

Every player in a team competes in two competitions simultaneously – individual and team – with each stroke counting in the individual event, whereas only the combined scores of the team’s top three players count for the opening two rounds.

All four scores count in the final round of each event.

There is a $25m prize fund on offer. $20m is assigned to the individual competition, with $5m going towards the team event.

The winner will take home a $4m share, with last place earning $50,000. In the team event, £3m goes to the winning foursome as the second and third place finishers win $1.5m and $500,000 respectively.

How to watch LIV Golf Andalucia

Viewers in the US can watch all of the action on Fox Sports. Those in the UK will now be able to watch the entire 2025 season on ITVX due to the new broadcasting deal that was agreed in February.
