A total of 19 LIV Golfers started the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush this week, but not all of them made the cut.

Scottie Scheffler is leading the tournament after a stunning round of 64 on day two, putting him in charge of the leaderboard.

On the LIV front, Tyrrell Hatton is leading the way at five-under par after impressive rounds of 68 and 69. The Englishman is certainly right in the mix heading into the weekend.

Joaquin Niemann, Carlos Ortiz, Lucas Herbert, Patrick Reed, Louis Oosthuizen, Tom McKibbin, Brooks Koepka and Cameron Smith wont be sticking around for the final two rounds.

With eight players from the breakaway league missing the halfway cut, just who will fight it out on the Dunlace links this weekend?

11 LIV Golfers have made the cut at the Open

Tyrrell Hatton – T5 (-5)

Hatton has won three Dunhill Links Championships in his career, but he has previously claimed he isn’t a specialist in links golf.

Could this change over the weekend? Sitting just five shots back, the Englishman has every chance of winning his first major title.

Lee Westwood – T12 (-3)

Westwood hadn’t played in a major since 2022 prior to this week, but he is certainly in the mix at three-under par heading into the weekend.

He had to come through final qualifying to secure a spot at Portrush, but the LIV star will be hoping he can finish high enough this week to seal a return next year.

Marc Leishman – T26 (-1)

Like Westwood, Leishman had to make it through qualifying to seal his place in Northern Ireland this week.

The Australian was part of the three-man playoff in 2015, losing out to Zach Johnson. Can he have a weekend to remember ten years on from that near miss?

Jason Kokrak – T26 (-1)

Kokrak’s best finish at the Open was a T28 result in 2021. After two rounds this year, he already looks to be on his way to bettering that finish.

Dean Burmester – T34 (Evens)

The South African impressed at final qualifying at the start of the month to seal his Open place.

Two rounds of 71 means Burmester heads into the weekend just outside the top 30. A decent third round score should see him motor up the leaderboard.

Phil Mickelson – T34 (Evens)

Mickelson shot a solid round of 70 on Thursday to give himself a chance of making the cut. Despite a Friday 72, the 2013 champion made just his second cut at the Open since 2019.

Dustin Johnson – T34 (Evens)

The 2025 Open may well be Johnson’s last for a while. This is the final major of his exemption for winning the 2020 Masters and his recent form suggests he wont make another for a while.

Despite that, he sits at evens heading into the weekend. Another two solid rounds could perhaps see him seal an invite for 2026.

Jon Rahm – T34 (Evens)

So far in 2025, Rahm has finished T14, T8 and T7 in the three majors. He has work to do over the weekend to ensure he improves with each major start of the year, but can you count out the Spaniard?

Absolutely not.

Sergio Garcia – T51 (+1)

Garcia sealed his place at Portrush by the skin of his teeth. He finished just inside the cut off places in the LIV Golf individual standings to play in his 26th Open.

Rounds of 70 and 73 ensures he plays the weekend.

Bryson DeChambeau – T51 (+1)

DeChambeau’s opening round 78 ensured any chances of winning the Open were all but dead and buried.

The American returned on Friday and improved by a staggering 13 shots. This meant he made the cut on the line.

Henrik Stenson – T51 (+1)

Stenson also looked to be heading home after an opening round of 75, but the Swede went around Portrush in 68 on Friday to make the cut on the number.

With the pressure off, how far up the leaderboard can the 2016 champion go?
