Tyrrell Hatton Wins LIV Golf Andalucía at Valderrama as Legion XIII Defends Team Title

Hatton closed with birdies on three of his last five holes to hold off a charging Jon Rahm, while Legion XIII overturned an eight-shot overnight deficit to claim a second consecutive team crown at Sotogrande.

Tyrrell Hatton won the LIV Golf Andalucía individual title at 11-under par on Sunday, closing with a 1-under 70 at Real Club Valderrama to finish two shots clear of Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm. The result also delivered a team championship for Legion XIII, who erased an eight-shot overnight deficit to finish six shots ahead of 4Aces GC and defend the title they won at the same venue last year.

It was Hatton’s first LIV Golf individual victory since Nashville in 2024, an 18-month gap the Englishman said had been on his mind all week.

“It’s extremely special to win here,” Hatton said. “I hadn’t won individually for 18 months, and that was definitely on my mind. I’m really happy that I’ve managed to do it round a golf course as tricky as this.”

How Hatton Closed It Out

Hatton led by two shots entering the final round at 10-under but looked vulnerable early. He was 2-over through 12 holes, with Rahm closing fast behind him. Birdies at the 13th, 16th and 17th steadied the card and kept the gap intact; two of those came in the last five holes.

The win came just over two weeks after he became a father for the first time.

To be honest, I thought no matter how today went, I’m still going to be home tonight, and I’ll walk into a crying newborn, and I’ll be doing nappies tonight. I’m really excited to get home to Emily and our little girl.

Rahm’s Sunday Charge

Rahm produced the round of the day, a 4-under 67 that carried him to solo second at 9-under. It was his second consecutive runner-up finish at LIV Golf Andalucía, and it kept the Spanish crowd engaged throughout. For a stretch, it looked as though he might close the gap entirely.

Rather than dwell on the near-miss, Rahm framed the week through the demands of the course itself.

“When you win here, you truly are by far the best player in every single aspect of your game,” Rahm said. “You can’t hide behind an easier setup or easier greens or wider. Like everything in your bag needs to be on for you to win here. There’s no excuses. That’s what I think makes it so special, the champion here is a true worthy champion.”

On the team result, he was more direct:

This type of golf course suits us. Ball striking is all of our strengths, and on a golf course like this one, it was exactly what was demanded of you.

Legion XIII’s Team Turnaround

Legion XIII, comprising Rahm, Hatton, Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt, started the final round eight shots off the pace in the team competition. Hatton and Rahm finishing 1-2 on the individual leaderboard accounted for the bulk of the swing, with the team posting a combined 7-under for the tournament to win by six from 4Aces GC.

The result moved Legion XIII to second in the season-long team standings behind 4Aces GC.

Ancer, Garcia and the Rest of the Leaderboard

Abraham Ancer (Torque GC) closed with a 3-under 68 to finish alone in third at 8-under, his best individual result of the 2026 LIV Golf season. Sergio Garcia (Fireballs GC) carded a closing 70 for fourth at 7-under. Garcia now has 18 top-10 finishes from 19 professional starts at Valderrama, an impressive record of consistency at a single venue.

Dustin Johnson, Thomas Detry, David Puig and Cam Smith shared fifth at 5-under.

Standings and Open Championship Implications

Hatton’s win lifted him to fourth in the season-long Individual Championship standings. Rahm remains first.

The Open Championship qualification picture shifted on the final day. Thomas Detry, who had been well-placed for much of the week, closed with a 74 to fall back to tied fifth. That stumble kept the LIV Golf Open Championship exemption in the hands of Joaquín Niemann (Torque GC), who finished tied 24th at 3-over but held on to third in the overall standings behind Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. Niemann’s qualification is now confirmed for Royal Birkdale next month.
