Ryan Armour Leads Steven Alker by One at Rogers Charity Classic

The PGA Tour Champions rookie followed an opening 65 with a 63, but a record-equalling round from Steven Alker left nine more players within two shots.

Ryan Armour

Ryan Armour shot a 7-under 63 on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead over Steven Alker into the final round of the Rogers Charity Classic.

The 50-year-old PGA Tour Champions rookie reached 12-under through 36 holes after opening with a 65. Alker surged from a tie for 27th by matching the tournament’s 18-hole scoring record with a 9-under 61.

Nine players share third place at 10-under, leaving 11 golfers separated by two strokes heading into Sunday. All three first-round co-leaders remain among that group.

Armour Chases First Champions Victory

Armour, making his 10th PGA Tour Champions start, will hold the lead and play in Sunday’s last group for the first time on the senior circuit.

He turned 50 on February 27 and entered the week at No. 74 in the Charles Schwab Cup standings. His best finish this season is a tie for 23rd at the Kaulig Companies Championship in Akron, Ohio, his hometown.

Armour’s only PGA Tour title came at the 2017 Sanderson Farms Championship. A victory on Sunday would end a winless spell of eight years, nine months and 25 days and make him the latest first-time PGA Tour Champions winner this season.

Alker Matches Tournament Record

Alker eagled the par-5 11th and covered the back nine in 6-under 29 during his 61. His round matched the Rogers Charity Classic record previously recorded by Fred Couples in 2014, Miguel Ángel Jiménez in 2015, Michael Bradley in 2019 and Ken Tanigawa in 2024.

The 2026 Cologuard Classic champion is seeking his 12th PGA Tour Champions victory and second of the season.

Mark Wilson also shot 61 on Saturday, climbing 47 places into a tie for 13th at 8-under. He is joined there by 2022 champion Jerry Kelly and Retief Goosen, who has eagled the par-5 11th in both rounds.

Nine Players Share Third

Zach Johnson, Bo Van Pelt and J.J. Henry each carded 62 to move within two shots of Armour. Johnson finished with an eagle at the par-5 18th and played the back nine in 29.

Johnson already has four PGA Tour Champions titles in 2026. A fifth would draw him level with Stewart Cink for the most victories on the circuit this season.

Defending champion Richard Green and Rob Labritz, two of the first-round co-leaders, both shot 67. Labritz reached 12-under through 14 holes before making double bogey at the 15th, while Green closed with a back-nine 31.

Jiménez posted a bogey-free 66 and has dropped only one shot through two rounds. Michael Block is also tied for third and remains bogey-free, while Canadian Mike Weir sits at 7-under after closing his second round with an eagle at the 18th.
