Michael Brennan wins first PGA Tour title

Bank of Utah Championship R4

Michael Brennan of the United States lines up a putt on the tenth green during the second round of the Bank of Utah Championship

Michael Brennan fired seven birdies and two bogeys, including one at the 18th, to close with a 5-under 66 and win the Bank of Utah Championship at 22-under. He led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (7.616)

This was the American’s first PGA Tour title in his third career start and first as a professional at the age of 23. He is now eligible to take up PGA Tour membership, which includes exempt status through 2027 and exemptions into The Players Championship, RBC Heritage and PGA Championship in 2026.

Brennan is the first sponsor exemption to win on Tour since Nick Dunlap at the 2024 American Express. He is the seventh player since 1970 to win his first PGA Tour title within his first three career starts, the fifth player to win his first title in his third career start and first since Matt McCarty at the 2024 Bank of Utah Championship.

“It’s just amazing. I have to thank the tournament director and their exemption crew to get me in this week. It means a lot. I think my agent, Terry, he put a lot of work in to get me a start, and look how it’s turned out. It paid out pretty good.

“I feel like maybe I have an idea what clicked, but I’m really not 100% sure. I’ll take it and hope to continue playing solid golf.

“Been my dream for a very long time to play on the PGA Tour and win on the PGA Tour, so, yeah, it feels amazing to do it. Just very thankful to even be in the field this week.”

Brennan played on the PGA Tour twice before as an amateur at the 2022 Genesis Invitational (MC) and 2023 US Open (MC).

He has won three times on PGA Tour Americas in 2025 and finished No. 1 in the 2025 Fortinet Cup standings to earn fully exempt status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2026. He posted twelve top-10s in sixteen starts on PGA Tour Americas in 2025, with his three victories coming in a span of four starts in August and September.

Second-year member Rico Hoey from the Philippines made six birdies and two bogeys for a 67 to finish second at 18-under, his second career runner-up finish (T2/2024 ISCO Championship) in his 58th career start on Tour.

Defending champion Matt McCarty of the USA carded four birdies and three bogeys for a 70 and a share of third place at 16-under alongside compatriots David Ford who made two bogeys for a 67, Justin Lower who made a single bogey for his 67 and Pierceson Coody who had a double bogey at the par-4 4th and shot a 69.

For, the 2025 PGA TOUR University No. 1, collected his first career top-10 finish on Tour having entered the week with two made cuts in nine starts since joining as a member in May.

Also tied in third place were Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen who carded a bogey-free 68 and Canada’s Ben Silverman who made one bogey for a 67.

FedExCup Fall Notes

The 2025 Bank of Utah Championship was the fourth event of the FedExCup Fall, a group of seven tournaments played after the Tour Championship that finalizes eligibility for the 2026 PGA Tour Season.

Winners of events during the FedExCup Fall receive the similar benefits of winners of Full-Field Events during the Regular Season, including 500 FedExCup points, Official World Golf Ranking points, a two-year PGA Tour exemption (exempt thru 2026) and invitations to The Sentry, the Players Championship and PGA Championship.

The top 100 players in the FedExCup Fall standings at the conclusion of The RSM Classic will be exempt into all Full-Field
Events and The Players Championship in 2026 while Nos. 101-150 will have conditional status on Tour.

The Aon Next 10 is an eligibility pathway that awards access into Signature Events (outside of The Sentry), recognizing the top 10 players, not otherwise exempt, from the FedExCup standings; Nos. 51-60 in the final FedExCup Fall standings at the conclusion of The RSM Classic will serve as the Aon Next 10 for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.
