David Puig wins maiden DP World Tour title

David Puig of Spain tees off on the second hole on day four of the BMW Australian PGA Championship

David Puig started the day with a share of the lead and fired five birdies for a bogey-free 66 to win the BMW Australian PGA Championship by two shots at 18-under.

This maiden DP World Tour title came in his 15th start and Puig becomes the second Spanish winner of the BMW Australian PGA Championship following Seve Ballesteros in 1981.

“It feels unbelievable, especially winning here in Australia. They have awesome golf so I’m really excited and happy.

“I was definitely nervous, but I think I kind of kept my composure really well.

“Obviously my name being with Seve’s name as the only two Spaniards to have won this event makes it even more special. Really happy.”

China’s Wenyi Ding made two bogeys for his own 66 and finished runner-up at 16-under.

Australia’s Marc Leishman made one bogey to record a 67 for a share of third place at 15-under alongside New Zealand’s Nick Voke who shot a bogey-free 66.

Overnight co-leader Ricardo Gouveia of Portugal made one bogey and closed with a 1-over 72 to move down into T8 at 12-under while co-leader Anthony Quayle of Australia made double bogeys at the par-4s 2nd and 5th for 73 and a T10 finish at 11-under.
