Adam Scott closed with a bogey-free 63 to take a 3-shot lead at the BMW Championship.
“Yesterday I felt really good on the course tee to green, and today leaving the range, just not quite in rhythm,” said the Australian. “I think it’s quite a hard range to actually get a good feeling for how you’re hitting it because the driver comes out and it’s like running along the ground, hitting straight up the mountain. It’s a funny feeling.
“But I settled down out there, and then a couple putts went in, and I could kind of find my rhythm a little bit.
“But it’s a great round. I think I took advantage of good conditions this morning and hopefully set myself up to have a real run at this thing on Sunday now.”
The Australian entered the FedExCup Playoffs at No. 46 and moved to No. 41 after the FedEx St. Jude Championship last week. He seeks to reach the Tour Championship for the 10th time in the FedExCup era (2007) and first since 2022.
First-round leader Keegan Bradley, who entered this week No. 50 in the FedExCup standings, made his first bogey of the tournament at the 18th and closed with a 68 to move down into second place at 10-under. He is projected to move to No. 11 in the FedExCup standings.
“I just have basically hit every shot the way I wanted this week,” said the American. “Even that drive on 18, I hit really well. Just the wind got it a little bit. Game feels really good. I feel really comfortable. It’s really fun to play in front of these fans. They’re excited. They’re passionate. It’s been a lot of fun.”
Ludvig Åberg followed up his opening 72 with a 9-under 63, featuring an eagle at the 14th and a single bogey, to move into third place at 9-under.
“The course is gettable. Felt like I was hitting it well. I was hitting a lot of fairways, and then you can be quite aggressive into the greens.
“It’s fun to be in this situation. It’s fun to play good golf. I’m going to keep being aggressive even though I shot even par yesterday. I was still very aggressive, which I like. Yeah, I’m going to keep doing that and try to keep up and make a few birdies to catch Adam.”
Sweden’s Alex Noren signed for a 68 to slip down into fourth place at 8-under followed a further shot behind by Canada’s Taylor Pendrith who shot 65.
The top 30 players at the conclusion of the BMW Championship will advance to the Tour Championship.
