Ewen Ferguson started the day with a share of the lead at 14-under and produced five birdies and a single bogey at the par-4 7th to close with a 68 and win the BMW International Open, his third DP World Tour title, by two shots at 18-under.
Victory on Sunday also earns the Scot a place at the Open via the Race to Dubai Rankings in Partnership with Rolex and his highest place on the Official World Golf Ranking.
“I honestly can’t believe it,” said Ferguson. “The last four holes I felt like I was in a dream, I didn’t think that this was actually happening, it was crazy I was hitting it so well and so much further than usual.
“I just wanted to do it for my dad, my mum, my sister, my brother at home. I love them so much and every shot I hit, I hit with them in mind.
“It’s such a hard game, I’ve been moaning like mad the last two months and with also being sick. The (Open) exemption with this is so much weight off my shoulders and I’m so happy. I can’t believe it.”
England’s Jordan Smith held a share of the overnight lead and closed with a 70 after making five birdies and three bogeys for a share of second place at 16-under alongside Australia’a David Micheluzzi who shot an eagle at the par-5 18th, six birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-3 2nd for a 68.
Matthew Southgate of England (70) and Scotland’s Connor Syme (67) finished fourth at 14-under.
