Yan Liu made four bogeys, one birdie and an albatross on Friday to record a second-round, even par 72 and remain in the lead at 7-under at The Chevron Championship. This is the first time since 2009 that the leading first- and second-round score to par at The Chevron Championship remained unchanged.
“This is major. I know the course going to be harder, harder, so I think just I just stay in the patient, calm. Because I’m very emotional person, yes.”
The Chinese player made the first albatross since the 2024 season, in which two were made. Grace Kim and Nanna Koertz Madsen both scored albatross in 2024, with Koertz Madsen’s coming most recently at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship.
Liu hit 12 of 14 fairways and 13 of 18 greens on Friday, with 32 putts. She is T1 in the field in greens in regulations, with 29 of 36 hit overall.
This is her first second-round lead on the LPGA Tour, and third post-round lead overall. She is the first player from the People’s Republic of China to hold the second-round lead at The Chevron Championship.
South Korean Haeran Ryu who started the day with a share of the lead went on to make three birdies, three birdies and a double bogey at the par-4 5th for a 74 and moved down into T6 at 5-under.
American World number 1 and defending champion Nelly Korda followed up her opening 77 with a 68 on Friday and lies in T46 at 1-over.
The second round was suspended due to darkness at 8:04 p.m. CT. and will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday. There are three groups and nine players still to finish their second round. The third round will begin at approximately 8:45 a.m. with players teeing off Nos. 1 and 10.
The cut line is currently +2 with 82 players inside. There are 63 players at 1-over on the leaderboard.
