Dean Burmester won LIV Golf Chicago in a playoff against Jon Rahm and Josele Ballester to claim his second win on the breakaway tour.

As such, he blew open the LIV Golf individual title race wide open, especially with Joaquin Niemann finishing in a tie for 17th place.

The Chilean had a chance to wrap up the individual crown in the windy city if he secured a sixth victory of the season. it wasn’t to be, however, despite a final round 67 which moved him up the leaderboard on Sunday.

Rahm kept himself right in the hunt to reclaim the title he won in 2024 by finishing runner-up to Burmester.

He might have lost the playoff, but the Spaniard now sits just 12 points behind Niemann and will defend his individual title by winning in Indianapolis.

LIV Golf individual title battle will go down to the wire

Burmester kept his calm during the playoff, making birdie on the first extra hole to claim his first victory since Miami in 2024.

“This has been emotional,” said the South African following his victory.

“Since kind of before Virginia I’ve been going through a bit of a rough time, personal stuff, and I’ve just been grinding and trying to get better.

“I think about my kids and my wife back home, and I’m just trying to do the best I can for them.”

It marks an impressive few weeks for Burmester, who made the cut at the Open before finishing fifth at LIV Golf UK.

Everyone watching was keen on a final event showdown between Rahm and Niemann in Indianapolis this week as the curtain comes down on the 2025 season.

Rahm’s consistency has been incredible. His lowest finish across 12 events was a T11 in Dallas, but he has yet to win.

Niemann on the other hand, has won five times throughout 2025, yet has finished T20th or lower on five occasions.

Everything is set up for an exciting final induvial event, that’s for sure.
