Julien Guerrier started the day with a share of the lead at the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters and fired five birdies, a bogey and a double bogey at the par-3 13th to close with a 70 and reach 21-under, still tied with his overnight co-leader.
Local favourite Jorge Campillo made five birdies and three bogeys and traded the lead with Guerrier throughout the afternoon leading to a playoff.
The nine-hole playoff was finally won when Guerrier parred from eight feet at the par-4 9th while Campillo bogeyed.
“I’m feeling great and I can’t believe I made it. Because it’s been a really long time I’ve been waiting for it,” said Guerrier.
“I knew it would be really hard because [Campillo’s] putting is amazing. Also my iron game was not in good shape today but my putting was really good.
“So I was trying to do my best and I’m really happy.
“On the last putt, I was thinking of my kids to give me the strength to hit it, so thanks to my family and my team.
“It’s a long wait and I’m very happy.”
England’s Dan Brown finished in solo third place at 19-under after closing with a 69 featuring eight birdies including four back-to-back from the 11th, as well as three bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 7th.
Fellow Englishman Jordan Smith also closed with a 69 for a share of fourth place at 17-under alongside Denmark’s Rasmus Højgaard whose 67 featured an eagle at the par-5 14th.
