FedEx St. Jude Championship R2

Tommy Fleetwood

Tommy Fleetwood carded a 6-under 64 featuring seven birdies and one bogey to reach 13-under and take the lead at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

“Yesterday I felt like I stayed very patient, and then today after a hot start, a few pars in a row, but actually 9, 10, 11, 12 I wasn’t feeling that comfortable with my swing, so actually then to get on a run after that I hit great shots into 13, 14 was a lovely shot. I played those holes really, really well, played them perfect. Two nice runs really on the back nine,” said the Englishman.

“When you shoot two good scores, it’s easy to say everything has been going well, but I think for the most part I’ve been very good off the tee, put myself in position to have a go at the course. My iron play has been good and solid, and I’ve rolled the ball well.

“The greens are really true and I’ve had a nice eye on the greens and good reads and rolling it well. Of course whatever score I am through two rounds, you’re going to have done everything well, but I think still you’ve got to focus on the good stuff and try and keep that going. ”

127 marks his low 36-hole total on the PGA Tour (previous: 129/2018 WGC-Bridgestone Invitational).

Fleetwood has hit 24 out of 28 fairways through 36-holes (85.71%), his highest driving accuracy through 36-holes in his PGA Tour career (previous: 69.44%, 2 times, most recent: 2024 BMW Championship).

Four of his five top-10s this season have come in Signature Events (T5/The Genesis Invitational, 7th/RBC Heritage, T4/Truist Championship, T2/Travelers Championship); other: T4/Charles Schwab Challenge.

At No. 9, he is the highest-ranked player in the FedExCup standings without a victory on Tour. The seven-time DP World Tour winner has six runner-up finishes and 42 top-10 finishes, the most of any player without a win since 1983.

American Collin Morikawa fired an eagle at the par-4 9th and three birdies for a 65 and a share of second place at 9-under.

Compatriot and overnight leader Akshay Bhatia made two birdies and one bogey for a 69 and his share of second place while England’s Justin Rose is 3-under through sixteen holes for his.

American World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler fired eight birdies and four bogeys to close with a 66 and a share of seventh place at 7-under.

Due to lightning in the area, play was suspended at 3:31 p.m. CT. Play will resume Saturday at 7:30 a.m. The third round will feature threesomes off Nos. 1 and 10 with approximate starting times from 9:50 a.m. – 11:50 p.m.

FedExCup Playoffs

Following the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the top 50 players in the FedExCup standings will qualify for next week’s BMW Championship (the second of three events in the FedExCup Playoffs).
