How appropriate when coming to St. Enodoc that the main 18-hole layout is called the Church Course.
Located in Cornwall County, the engaging design sits above the River Camel which leads out to the Atlantic Ocean. The compelling layout provides a scenic panorama with holes winding through the rolling terrain.
You’ll certainly need your prayer book in hand when stepping onto the tee box of the devilish par-4 10th.
The hole commences from an elevated tee and the challenge becomes totally apparent when gazing at a pencil thin rippling fairway before you.
The left side is rigorously defended by deep brush. Go just a tiny bit too far left and the words “re-load” will be front and center.
A massive hillside dominates the right side. Players can attempt to hit a tee shot down that side and hope the bounce will take them back to the short grass. However, there’s no guarantees on that happening and if one is stuck in that area the resulting awkward stance will most certainly impact one’s second shot.
The hole turns left and the approach to the green is no easy matter.
Those getting to the green will also need to decipher an array of interior movements.
As one approaches the green be sure to take a moment and appreciate the position of the course’s namesake to the right.
Those leaving the green in no more than four strokes will count their blessings that their prayers have been answered.
