China’s Haotong Li, Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat and Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan all closed with 6-under 66s in the morning heat at the Hainan Classic before play was suspended for the day due to thunder and lightning in the area.
“Even if the fairways are quite wide you still have to hit a good tee-shot,” said Li about the Blackstone Course, hosting a DP World Tour event for the first time.
“My approach shots were really good today [and] I’ve been holing some putts. Overall, it was just a good day.”
Round 1 will re-start Friday morning at 7am with the start of the second round pushed back.
China’s Zihao Jin made three birdies and an eagle at the par-5 2nd for a bogey-free 67 and a share of fourth place at 5-under alongside Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen who has made an eagle at the par-5 6th, three birdies and one bogey through thirteen holes.
