Cam Davis carded a bogey-free 9-under par 63 featuring an eagle at the par-5 14th at The Lakes Golf Club to take a one-shot lead at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open.
“It was a good round of golf,” said the Australian. “It was awesome to get off to a good start and keep it going throughout the whole round. There are not many better ways to start off your national open, so I am very happy.
“It was awesome to see how many people turned up, so it was a lot of fun.”
The national open is being held at The Lakes and The Australian golf clubs with a total of 252 men, women and players of All Abilities in the field. Preferred lies are being used after heavy rain on Wednesday.
American Patrick Rodgers lies in second place after signing for a 64 at The Lakes in spite of bogeys at the par-4 7th and the par-518th.
Australia’s Hayden Hopewell carded a bogey-free 65 at The Lakes for a share of third place at 7-under alongside Scotland’s Connor Syme who shot a 64 at The Australian.
