LIV Golf returns to Australia as Adelaide hosts the second event of the 2025 season. Last week, Adrian Meronk won the opening tournament of the year, claiming victory in Riyadh by two strokes over Sebastian Muñoz.

The Adelaide stop is one of the most popular on the calendar for the simple reason that the country is starved of top class action at the highest level.

94,000 tickets were sold for last year’s LIV Golf Adelaide, which incredibly, was more than double the number of the next best event on the tour, showcasing how popular it has been.

Of course, having Australians Cameron Smith, Marc Leishman Lucas Herbert and Matt Jones teeing up certainly helps enhance the popularity of the event.

Last year, this quartet were victorious over Stinger GC in what was the very first team playoff, which produced wild celebrations from the crowd, who were eager to see Ripper GC storm to the team title.

The individual title was won by Brendan Steele, who finished one-stroke ahead of former Open Championship winner Louis Oosthuizen on 18-under par for the tournament.

The party atmosphere will be heard mainly at the 12th hole. This par-3 is termed the ‘watering hole’ due to the fact plastic beer cups are thrown towards the tee, regardless if the player has found the green with his opening shot or not.

The 2025 tournament will also be the first one that Greg Norman won’t be the CEO, with Scott O’Neill taking over the reins from the two-time major champion.

Held after the Masters in both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, LIV Adelaide has moved to mid-February this season, occupying an advantageous slot towards the end of the Australian summer.

Course details: The Grange Golf Club

The Grange Golf Club combines two internationally rated 18 hole golf courses: The West and The East. Both of these course feature in the top 50 courses in Australia.

LIV Adelaide uses a combination of both courses for the event, with each offering different tests.

Grange Golf Club was founded in 1926, designed by Cargie Rymill. Plenty of adaptations were made after the second World War, before a total revamp was completed in the late 1960s which split the Grange into two wonderful courses – East and West.

The East Course is famous for being the birthplace of Norman’s professional career. Aged just 21, he won the West Lakes Classic in 1976, thus propelling him to superstardom.

Indeed, it was the ‘Great White Shark’ who renovated and upgraded the East Course, which was in dire need of rejuvenation. Featuring a multitude of hazards and tricky, fast greens, it remains a challenging layout.

The West Course may offer plenty of deception due to the fact it measures ‘just’ 6,840 yards, but the tree-lined holes make it a difficult course to master, especially due to the strategic placement of the bunkers, designed to catch poor shots.
