Under his leadership, MNML Golf has quickly gained recognition for its sleek, functional approach to golf accessories. The Goulden Story
I first picked up a golf club at 17 when my high school decided to start a golf team. I wasn’t particularly good, but I put in the hours and earned a spot on the team. That drive to improve, even as an underdog, has been a defining aspect of my journey.
I managed to make it onto a D2 college team, only to be kicked off for lacking commitment—my late-night skateboarding habits weren’t exactly seen as conducive to the team’s goals.
After college, I pivoted away from competing and immersed myself in the world of coaching, which reignited my confidence in my own game. Eventually, I ended up in California, where I pursued the dream of qualifying for the U.S. Open through the Golden State Tour.
Those years on the mini-tour were invaluable, but I soon realised that competing wasn’t the path for me. So, I started sharing my experiences and insights online, which ultimately led to a stint with a golf app startup and a new perspective on my career.
The true turning point came when I moved to Puerto Rico. I went there to surf, coach, and take a break from everything. But when Hurricane Maria devastated the island, I had to find a new purpose. That’s when I realised I was missing something bigger.
I moved back to LA, rented a tiny space, and got to work on the very first MNML Golf bag. My aim was to create a bag that solved real issues for golfers—just like the ones I’d faced during my playing days. It’s been a crazy journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

After being a touring professional and respected golf instructor, what inspired you to launch MNML Golf, and specifically to focus on innovative golf bags as a core product?
I saw an opportunity to reimagine the golf bag experience. The market was saturated with over-complicated designs, unnecessary zippers, and a lack of innovation.
I wanted to create something minimalist and functional—bags that golfers actually need and would enjoy using without compromising on features or style.
How did your personal journey as a golfer shape the design and functionality of MNML Golf bags?
As a touring professional, I knew the frustration of using poorly designed gear. I wanted to eliminate pain points like broken zippers, and instead offer features that matter in this new era of technology: a filming pocket for swing analysis, magnetic closures for durability, and tech integrations like solar chargers and speakers. Every feature is driven by what I wished I’d had as a player.
What gaps in the market did you identify that led to the creation of MNML’s minimalist, tech-integrated golf bags?
Most golf bags were either tech-heavy and clunky or lacking functionality. I saw the need for a modern bag that was lightweight, clean in design, and included innovative features like built-in chargers and speakers—bridging the gap between aesthetics and technology.
We also wanted to be sustainable which is why we chose to use high-quality recyclable materials.
Can you walk us through the design process for MNML golf bags? How did you prioritise features like the built-in phone charger and speaker?
We start with a problem-solving mindset—if a feature doesn’t enhance the player’s experience, it doesn’t make it into the bag.
Each element, from the filming pocket to the magnetic closures, is prioritised based on feedback from golfers. We work iteratively to refine prototypes, always keeping usability and innovation in focus.
Sustainability is a growing focus in product design. How does MNML Golf integrate eco-friendly practices into its golf bag manufacturing?
We prioritise sustainable materials and production processes, minimising waste wherever possible.
We also encourage customers to trade in their old bags, which we donate to junior golfers. It’s about extending the lifecycle of every product and making a positive impact.
How has your career evolved from being a professional golfer to an entrepreneur? What were some of the challenges and rewards in making that transition?
Transitioning from player to entrepreneur meant shifting my focus from performance to problem-solving.
The biggest challenge was learning the intricacies of product design and manufacturing. But the reward has been seeing the MNML Golf community grow and receiving direct feedback from satisfied customers.
What has been the most surprising or rewarding feedback you’ve received from customers about MNML Golf bags?
The most rewarding feedback is when customers say the bag has transformed their game day experience—making it simpler, more enjoyable, and adding a unique personal touch with the hand-painted artwork. It validates our focus on innovation and thoughtful design.
Innovation is key to MNML Golf’s brand. Are there any new products or features in the pipeline that you can share with us?
We’re exploring more tech integrations, like smarter energy solutions for our solar chargers and enhanced connectivity with other devices.
We’re also developing new accessory lines to complement the bags—everything focused on making the golfer’s experience better.

How do you see the MNML Golf brand evolving in the next 5-10 years, particularly in expanding beyond golf bags?
Our vision is to redefine golf accessories and apparel with the same minimalist, functional approach. In the next 5-10 years, we plan to expand into apparel and other gear, creating a full lifestyle brand that resonates with modern golfers both on and off the course.
Since we were founded and based in Southern California, we also want to let golfers in our area know about our values because they certainly will resonate.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs who want to break into the golf industry, especially in a highly competitive niche like golf accessories and instruction centres like MNML Golf Club?
Stay true to your vision and don’t get caught up in chasing trends. Focus on solving real problems that golfers face.
Also, build genuine relationships with your customers—listen to their feedback and stay connected. That’s what ultimately sets your brand apart.
