Chris Gotterup has won his first PGA Tour title in his 27th start with a final round 67 to reach 22-under and win by six shots at the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic. He is now fully exempt through the 2026 season and qualifies for his second major championship appearance at next week’s PGA Championship.
The American is the first player to bogey the first two holes of the final round and go on to win on Tour since Keith Mitchell at the 2019 Cognizant Classic.
“The first hole was probably nerves. I don’t know, I really didn’t even feel that bad. I hit not a good second putt, and not a good first one.
“But the second hole, it was like a 75-footer up and over into the wind. The odds aren’t in my favor on that one.
“The first hole, that one bothered me a little bit. Then I settled in nicely. I was actually in a divot on the third hole and hit it to about four, five feet. Once I got going, it was definitely much more calmish.”
Six strokes is the largest margin of victory on Tour this season, Scottie Scheffler won by 5 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
In his second career PGA Tour start, sponsor exemption Alistair Docherty of the United States posted a final-round 64 and finished runner-up to qualify for the next open PGA Tour tournament at the RBC Canadian Open. He has conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2024 and has made seven starts this season (best: T20/LECOM Suncoast Classic).
Davis Thompson finished runner-up for the second time on Tour with a 68.
Dane Thorbjørn Olesen set a new course record at The Dunes Golf and Beach Club with a 61 marking his career-low round on Tour and finished T16 at 12-under.
16-year-old American Blades Brown, who became the second 16-year-old in as many weeks to make the cut (Kris Kim/THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson/65th), finished T26 at 10-under in his Tour debut.
