Patton Kizzire moves to top of the leaderboard

Procore Championship R2

Patton Kizzire signed for a bogey-free 65 to reach 13-under and take a one-shot lead at the Procore Championship. He leads an all-American top-5.

“Made a nice birdie on 1. That always helps you settle in. I just struggled a little bit, I wasn’t hitting the fairways. I was battling a little bit hitting good putts that weren’t going in. I stayed patient and kept my head and by the time I got to the back nine, that even keel paid off, I made six birdies on the back nine and turned it into a great day.

Kizzire has won twice and this is his second 36-hole lead or co-lead in 242 starts on the PGA Tour. He has recorded two top-10 finishes in 18 starts this season.

First-round leader David Lipsky carded a 5-under 67 to fall one behind Kizzire after a round featuring and eagle at the par-4 16th and a double bogey at the par-4 8th.

“I wasn’t trying to make those big numbers, make bogeys, but it happens in golf,” said Lipsky. “Just got to accept that. Especially on a course that’s so firm and bouncy like this one, you’re going to get some bad breaks and you’re going to get some good breaks.”

Patrick Fishburn who has had three top-15 finishes in his last four starts on Tour carded a 65 after closing with an eagle at the par-5 18th to move into solo third place at 11-under.

J.J. Spaun closed with a bogey-free 65 for a share of fourth place at 10-under alongside Matt Kuchar who shot 64.

A victory on Sunday for Kuchar would come at the age of 46 years, 2 months, 25 days, which would make him the Tour’s oldest winner since Phil Mickelson won the 2021 PGA Championship (50 years, 11 months, 7 days). He has now had
four rounds of 64 or better in his last eight rounds.

Defending champion Sahith Theegala trails by four in a bid to become the third player to win the Procore Championship in back-to-back seasons since the event moved to Silverado Resort in 2014 (Brendan Steele/2016-17, Max Homa/2021-22).

FedExCup Fall Notes

The 2024 Procore Championship marks the first year with Procore as title sponsor and is the first of the FedExCup Fall, a group of eight tournaments played after the Tour Championship that finalizes eligibility for the 2025 PGA Tour Season.

Nos. 1-50 in the FedExCup standings through the Tour Championship are locked in their positions while Nos. 51 and beyond carry their FedExCup points into the Fall; Nos. 51-60 through the FedExCup Fall will qualify for two Signature Events in 2024: AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and The Genesis Invitational.

Currently no players are projected to move into or fall out of Nos. 51-60.
