Patton Kizzire closed with a 67 to take a four-shot lead ahead of the final day of the Procore Championship.
The American has won twice previously on the PGA Tour in 241 starts but not since the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii. He has recorded two top-10 finishes in 18 starts this season at the Barracuda Championship (T8) and Myrtle Beach Classic (T10).
All seven players with a 54-hole lead of four strokes or more have gone on to win on Tour this season, most recently Scottie Scheffler at the Memorial Tournament.
American first-round leader David Lipsky carded a 70 to hold on to second place at 14-under.
“I really didn’t have my best today,” said Lipsky. “You know, over the course of a week, days like this happen. Made some really nice putts coming down the stretch and hung in there and kept myself in it and that’s all I can ask for when I don’t have my A-game from tee to green.
“Everyone has bad days, it’s just how bad is it going to be. Especially around the turn, swing just didn’t feel as good as it did the past two days and I
just battled through it. I was just trying to play safe, trying to make some putts, sort of did that coming down the stretch.”
Canadians and International Presidents Cup team members Mackenzie Hughes and Corey Conners sit at T3 at 13-under after both shot rounds of 66 with Hughes staying bogey-free.
“I was quite pleased with the day,” said Hughes. “Thought it was a bit tricky
this afternoon, a little bit firm, so yeah, anything around where I would have shot was going to be a good round.
“The wind was a small factor, not anything causing too much trouble, but there was definitely enough to play downwind, into the wind, it was affecting shots. Basically what we’ve been facing essentially, it’s very similar conditions. I’d just say the course is a little firmer than it was Thursday afternoon when I played. That’s probably the biggest difference is a little bit firmer.”
Also tied in third place are PGA Tour rookie Patrick Fishburn who signed for a 70 and fellow American Greyson Sigg who carded a 66.
