Wei-Ling Hsu carded a bogey-free 66 in the opening round of the Pure Silk Championship presented by Visit Williamsburg to take a one shot lead ahead of a crowded leaderboard at 5-under.

“Actually I feel quite the same from [the] very first hole all the way to the 18th. I just kept waiting. I know my feeling is pretty good right now,” said Hsu. “A lot of birdie chances. I just kept waiting, and finally when I made the turn, three birdies in a row on the back nine on holes 12, 13, 14.

“I think first of all it was a really good ball striking day and I gave myself a lot of chances on the greens,” said Tan. “I took care of the par-5s, it was just really fun out there today and I liked the chances that I had.”

“I had three weeks off, so I was just practicing my short game, and I know that the fairways and rough isn’t like really thick here, so I was focusing on having good contact on the ball,” said 23-year-old Jeon. “And I think the putting here is really key for the tournament, so I worked on my distance putting and I think that worked out pretty good, too.

Two-time winner Ariya Jutanugarn carded a total one-under par 70 to sit four strokes behind the lead.

10-time LPGA Tour winner Paula Creamer, making her return this week after leaving the Tour in 2019 due to injuries, shot five-over par 76, two strokes better than defending champion Bronte Law.
