Sanderson Farms Championship R3

Garrick Higgo of South Africa plays his shot from the 16th tee during the second round of the Sanderson Farms Championship

Garrick Higgo made one bogey and six birdies on Saturday to close with a 5-under 67, reach 18-under and hold on to the lead at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

“I’d say it was quite a good fight [today]. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I mean, it’s never easy. Golf never really goes your way. I just stayed patient and tried to put good swings on it and tried to roll the ball as good as I can,” said Higgo.

“I hit it pretty good again. Made some good saves. But I think I just stayed patient and then just let it come to me.

“It’s just a tough game, and this week it seems to — I seem to be playing well. I think all of us always try and stay patient. Some weeks it’s easier than other weeks.”

Higgo holds the 54-hole lead/co-lead for the first time on the PGA Tour, his previous-best third-round position in an individual stroke-play event was T2 at the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship where he won.

198 marks the South African’s career-low 54-hole total on Tour (previous-best: 202 – on three occasions, most recently at the 2025 Corales Puntacana Championship). He is attempting to become the seventh multiple winner of the season.

The two-time PGA Tour winner claimed his first Tour title at the 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree in his second-ever start. He also owns three DP World Tour victories and two Sunshine Tour wins in his native South Africa.

Steven Fisk signed for a bogey-free 65 to move into a share of second place at 16-under alongside fellow American and PGA Tour rookie Danny Walker who eagled the par-5 5th and made seven birdies including five consecutively from the 14th as well as four bogeys for a 67.

This was Walker’s career-best birdie streak (previous-best was three in a row, most recently during the second round of the 2025 3M Open). He has the most feet of putts made (451’4”) through three rounds in the Shotlink era.

American Taylor Montgomery made two bogeys and shot a 69 to move down into fourth place at 15-under.

Matt Kuchar of the USA made one bogey and recorded a 65 to move into T5 at 14-under. A victory on Sunday would come at the age of 47 and make him the oldest winner on Tour since Phil Mickelson won the 2021 PGA Championship at the age of 50 years.

FedExCup Fall Notes
