Although Sergio García couldn’t attend the inauguration in person, the 2017 Masters champion and Ryder Cup icon appeared via video to share his excitement about seeing his creation come to life. “The quality of the land made it such a joy to leave our mark there,” he said. “Now that it’s open, I can’t wait to play it myself — to walk it, feel it, and see how it plays.”

García’s Vision: A Course with Soul and Strategy
Set among the unspoiled dunes and pines of Portugal’s Atlantic coast, an hour south of Lisbon, The Torre Course stretches to 6,575 metres and captures García’s distinct playing philosophy — a blend of precision, patience, and shotmaking creativity.
“It’s a course with personality,” García explained. “I love small greens, short par threes that test your control, and dogleg par fours that make you think. The idea was to design something that challenges but also invites you to come back and try it again in a different way.”
The result is a layout inspired by García’s lifelong affection for Valderrama, combining tight driving corridors, subtle elevation changes, and pristine sandy turf that encourages imaginative play. Every hole feels rooted in its natural surroundings, from the downhill ninth tee framed by a solitary tree to the panoramic views that unfold across holes 12 and 13.

For Vanguard Properties, owners of Terras da Comporta, the opening of The Torre Course is part of a larger vision to make the region one of Europe’s premier golf and lifestyle destinations.
“The official opening of the Torre Course is more than the celebration of a new golf layout,” said Alexandre Berda, chairman of Vanguard Properties. “It represents a vision — to build places that endure, that showcase Portugal as a world-class destination in golf, leisure, and beyond.”
The weekend also marked The Dunas Course’s second anniversary, celebrated with a glittering event attended by local dignitaries and international media. Designed by David McLay Kidd, The Dunas has already earned a place among Europe’s must-play modern courses — and now, paired with García’s Torre design, Terras da Comporta offers one of the most compelling 36-hole golf experiences on the continent.
Rodrigo Ulrich, golf general manager for Vanguard Properties, added:
“The Torre Course and The Dunas Course are very different in character — one strategic and compact, the other bold and open. Together they provide two world-class, contrasting experiences that perfectly complement each other.”
A Complete Resort Experience
Beyond its championship golf, Terras da Comporta continues to evolve into a luxury leisure community offering tennis, padel, pickleball, horse riding, and a selection of hotels, villas, and residential developments — all set amid the coastal charm and natural beauty that make golf holidays in Portugal so appealing.
For García, though, it all comes back to the golf. “Every hole has its own character,” he said. “We wanted it to be beautiful, strategic, and fun to play — a place that keeps calling you back. I think we’ve achieved that here.”
