The tour-standard Z-Star Series has received a major overhaul for 2023 and Srixon has launched a four-pronged response to similar unveilings from its main rivals.
The fight for customers in this market is especially ferocious and, although Srixon has some iconic golf brands, for the average player, the Z-Star isn’t at the top of the tree.
But the eighth generation of its top-of-the-range golf ball has a new and interesting version, which is half white and yellow and, while it might invoke thoughts of gimmicky practice balls for many players, having a golf ball with two different colours makes a lot of sense. For a start it is easier to track off the club and easier to spot on the ground. Also when lining up putts you can easily see how the ball is rotating while, with your wedges, there is the immediate visual display of spin.
Joe Miller, Product expert at Srixon Sports Europe, said: “The visual feedback on its own is one of the most beneficial features of the Divide ball.
“The ability to track your spin in the air and around the greens will help with overall consistency, and with the one of a kind 360° line you’ll be able to see your line more clearly and perfect your roll on the greens.”
For many the Divide will be a step too far and the other three more conventional Srixon releases will have more appeal.
Leading the way is the Z-Star XV. With a whopping 102 compression, this is the ball for those with 100+mph swing speeds who want distance and then a bit more distance.
Like all golf balls manufacturers, achieving the balance between speed and spin is something they battle with but the advances in technology mean those lines are blurring. The thinness of the XV’s urethane means it is measured in microns and Srixon’s Spin Skin+ coating is designed to enhance friction so your short irons exert plenty of revs to maximise control.

The Z-Star is the softest of the three and is engineered with a thin mid-layer and softer compression to prioritise softer feel and approach shot spin, while the Z-Star Diamond has a firmer compression to optimize iron spin and distance.
All three use the Z-Star’s proven 338-dimple make-up. The excellent aerodynamic properties it offers improves overall launch even when wind conditions aren’t ideal. Its deep dimensions do a great job creating a low drag coefficient that helps the ball stay on target and maintain distance, while keeping a penetrating ball flight in headwinds.
