November 12-15
Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia
$11,500,000
Round 1, Round 3, Round 4

Paul Casey got off to a good start with an opening round 65 on Thursday, firing an eagle on the second hole and five birdies in his 66th bid for a maiden Major Championhsip.

โ€œSo many people like myself are just excited to play this,โ€ said Casey. โ€œThis is a treat. It always has been and always will be a real treat. I know there's no patrons out there but it's a golf course I love to play, the chance to play it in 2020 in a very different situation was something I was looking forward to, and I've put together a great round of golf today.

"I've been hitting it so bad recently so I've genuinely worked really hard the last few weeks - and the last two weeks were no exception.โ€

Casey and others who started in the morning benefitted from soft greens after play had to be suspended for nearly three hours due to rain. As a result of the delay, more than 40 players had yet to finish their rounds when play was stopped due to insufficient daylight and will have to finish on Friday.

"It's a very different golf course right now with a little bit of Bermuda grass in there and obviously the soft conditions but experience is still experience around Augusta National,โ€ said Casey.

He holds a two-shot lead over Webb Simpson and Xander Schauffele. Justin Thomas was also at 5-under with eight holes left when play stopped.

Lee Westwood's 4-under was his best start at Augusta National since 2012 and he was tied in fifth place when play was halted.

โ€œI tend to play well when I play a lot, and I've played a lot more than I normally would recently. I'm the kind of player that plays his way into form and I've just been playing consistently well, but just not really putting four rounds together and finishing it off really.โ€
