In a move that’s sure to delight both golfers and food lovers alike, one of Portugal’s most iconic golf destinations, The Old Course at Vilamoura, has just unveiled a fresh take on its clubhouse experience. Known for its rich history and prestigious reputation, the second-oldest course in the Algarve is now adding a modern twist to its offerings with a revamped pub concept designed to enhance the post-golf experience.
The newly refreshed pub offers a comfortable space that blends classic British pub favourites with a contemporary edge, featuring traditional comfort food with a culinary twist. Add to that an impressive drink selection, including refreshing pitcher cocktails, Portuguese wines, and an array of British and international beers, and you’ve got a venue that’s set to become a favourite for golfers and visitors alike.
But the updates to the pub are just the beginning. The new clubhouse concept is rooted in a thoughtful design that celebrates the Old Course’s storied past while creating a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. It’s a space where vintage charm meets modern sensibilities — perfect for winding down after a challenging round of golf or hosting special occasions in a warm, convivial setting.
The Old Course, part of the Dom Pedro Golf Vilamoura collection, has undergone several on-course improvements recently, and the new food and beverage options in the clubhouse are a natural extension of this revitalisation.
Nuno Sepúlveda, Co-CEO of DETAILS, which manages the course, said: “We are very proud to have such a historic and revered venue like the Old Course as part of our portfolio, and we are determined to ensure we create an authentic and relaxed venue with a unique gastronomic experience for our members, guests, and the local community.”
What sets this project apart is the expertise behind it. US-based hospitality consulting agency, Streetsense, has brought its global experience in hospitality and design to ensure the clubhouse concept is cohesive, efficient, and memorable. With a track record spanning more than two decades and projects that range from residential and retail to food and beverage, Streetsense’s partnership with DETAILS brings a layer of sophistication to the Old Course’s latest transformation.
Brian Taff, CEO of Streetsense, echoed the excitement around this collaboration: “The Old Course was designed not just as a haven for golfers, but as a true gathering place and community anchor. Streetsense is deeply honoured that our Hospitality Consulting team has the opportunity to partner with DETAILS’ dedicated team to revitalise this historic property… Together, we’re excited to bring new energy to a timeless place and respected tradition.”
The updates to the clubhouse go beyond just food and drink. Significant improvements to the entrance, golf shop, living room, and terrace are in progress, all aimed at creating a classic yet elegant atmosphere that complements the course’s prestigious legacy. The new golf shop will also introduce a boutique experience, offering top-tier golf apparel and equipment, giving members and guests the opportunity to shop for premium products on-site.
Come November, when the new state-of-the-art clubhouse opens, visitors will experience a next-level offering. From personalised service and VIP concierge options to world-class playing conditions, The Old Course is set to become a premium, gated club unlike any other in the region.
And it’s not just the Old Course that’s undergoing exciting changes. The Dom Pedro Golf Vilamoura collection, which includes the renowned Victoria Course — former host of the Portugal Masters — is also undergoing its own renovations. This ongoing investment into the courses solidifies Vilamoura’s standing as a top-tier golfing destination, recently named Portugal’s Best Golf Resort for 2024 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO).
