Ashun Wu started the day four shots behind the leaders and secured his Volvo China Open title with a final-round 6-under 65 to reach 14-under having made two birdies and a bogey on the front nine and five birdies on the back nine.
The Chinese player had won his first DP World Tour title at this event in 2015.
“It is very special, that was 10 years ago when I won the Volvo China Open in Shanghai,” said Wu. “That was 10 years ago and to come back to Shanghai, and win again, it is a great story.
“It was a great round, I played great golf this week. You are always happy to win your own country’s Open, so very, very exciting.
“On the back nine, I felt I had more chances to make birdies and still be patient, keep going and never give up. Five birdies on the back nine I think, so that is wonderful. It was a really, really good game today.
“He [Smith] pushed me to make some birdies on the back nine, I just said to myself to be patient, the chances are coming.
“It’s an incredible week, there are incredible fans here and lovely golf course. It’s my home, Shanghai, even after a couple of rounds I felt relaxed because I was playing at home. Shanghai has given me luck.”
Wu’s playing partner, Jordan Smith of England, made eight birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 9th for a 67 and finished second at 13-under.
Germany’s Yannik Paul started his round with back-to-back birdies but recovered with four birdies and closed with a 69 to finish third at 12-under.
China’s Haotong Li and Spain’s Eugenio Chacarra who started the day in the lead both carded 72s for a share of fourth place at 11-under. Li eagled the par-4 17th and made three birdies but also made four bogeys and a double bogey at the par-3 5th. Chacarra meanwhile made five bogeys and four birdies.
China’s Zecheng Dou closed with a 70 having made two bogeys to take a share of fourth place.
