Dundonald Links has been recognised with the ‘Best Course Condition’ award after impressing players and officials with its presentation at last July’s ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open.

The accolade was presented at the Ladies’ European Tour (LET) 2026 season launch, recognising the venue’s continued excellence in staging world-class tournament golf.

Course superintendent, Rob Wooddisse, said:

“We are extremely grateful to receive this award, especially as it’s voted for by the players and LET staff themselves. It’s a real honour for the entire team. The build-up to tournament week involves countless hours of preparation and during the event our staff and volunteers work tirelessly from early morning until late in the day to ensure the course is presented at its very best.”

The award was voted for by LET players and staff and recognises the hours of skilled work invested by Wooddisse and the entire dedicated greenkeeping team at Dundonald Links.

Wooddisse added:

“To hear such positive feedback from the players – who compete on the finest courses around the world – is incredibly rewarding and makes all of that hard work worthwhile.”

Scottish Open Venue Dundonald Links Strengthens Championship Reputation

Located in the heart of Ayrshire’s famous golf coast, Dundonald Links has established itself as one of Scotland’s standout modern links venues. The course has hosted both the Men’s and Women’s Scottish Opens, becoming the first venue to stage both championships in the same year in 2017 and continues to strengthen its reputation as a trusted host for elite professional golf.

The 2025 ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open featured an inspired victory from England’s Lottie Woad, who was making her professional debut. The 21 year old shot 21-under par to make history and become only the third player since the inception of the LPGA to win in her first start as a member.

A record crowd of 11,000 spectators gathered across the week to witness the remarkable feat as Woad held off pressure from a star-studded field. Even then ranked world number one, Nelly Korda could not throw off the debutant, who fired her way to a three shot winning margin to top-off a superb week of thrills at the prestigious links course.

July will see the tournament make its return to the venue for the 2026 ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open, further strengthening the resort’s enduring ties to a major event on the women’s golf calendar.

As Scotland’s only LPGA Tour stop, the tournament returns to Dundonald Links for the eighth time in 12 years, continuing a run of five successive editions at the venue.

Award Winning Links Course Built for Elite Tournament Golf

David-Ross Nicol, director of golf at Dundonald Links, said:

“Rob and his team set the standard year after year, and this award is a fitting recognition of the care, expertise and sheer hard work that goes into presenting the course at the highest possible level. Tournament week demands an enormous amount behind the scenes and the condition of the course this year was nothing short of exceptional. We’re incredibly proud of what the team has achieved.

Originally designed by Willie Fernie and opened in 1911, the site later lay dormant for decades before renowned architect Kyle Phillips transformed it into the modern-day links masterpiece that reopened in 2003. Today, the layout is celebrated for its challenging bunkers, imaginative greens and classic links character, earning its place among the star names of Ayrshire’s celebrated golf coast. Dundonald Links also hosts Open Championship Final Qualifying, another major event scheduled to return in 2026.

Nicol concluded:

“With the 2026 ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open on the horizon, there’s already a real sense of excitement building across the resort. We’re looking forward to welcoming the world’s best players back to Dundonald Links and delivering another unforgettable championship.”
