Daniel Brown takes three-shot lead in South Africa

Daniel Brown started the day a shot behind the lead and produced an eagle at the par-5 6th, seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 12th for a 67 to move into a three-shot lead at 11-under at the SDC Championship.

“I had a really good finish,” said the Englishman. “I’ve played really good the last two days but something really clicked in that stretch where I kept hitting it close, which is nice.”

The wind shifted overnight and caused some disruption for players on Friday.

“It was a completely opposite wind so it took a bit of getting used to,” Brown continued.

“Holes that were easy yesterday were really tricky today. As soon as you play two or three shots you realise it’s going to be a completely different challenge.

“I managed to scrap it around a bit in places and hang on. So you just take it one hole at a time and figure it out from there.”

South African Shaun Norris was tied for the lead overnight and fired an eagle at the par-5 6th, a birdie and two bogeys for a 71 and a share of second place at 8-under alongside compatriot Robin Williams who carded a 67 featuring an eagle at the par-5 16th, five birdies and two bogeys.

Americans Jordan Gumberg and James Nicholas both carded 69s and are tied in fourth place at 7-under.

South Africa’s Pieter Moolman who shared the overnight lead had a disastrous day and and missed the cut after making a single birdie, five bogeys and a double bogey at the par-3 18th for an 81.
