Overnight leader Laurie Canter increased his lead with a birdie at the 5th but bogeyed the 8th and double bogeyed the par-4 10th before rallying to produce two birdies for a 73 and a share of the lead at 12-under at the European Open.
“I really want to win,” said the Englishman. “There’s nothing for me to lose or worry about in that respect. I’m going to try and win the tournament.
“I felt like I tried to do that today. I felt at times today that round could have got away from me and turned to two, three over par. Hopefully that’s the sticky round behind me.
“I did not play well today. I hung in pretty well, I had some really good little up-and-downs on the back nine to keep myself in it so overall I’m pretty pleased with that.”
Italy’s Guido Migliozzi started the day six shots behind the lead but made three consecutive birdies from the 15th to close with a bogey-free 67 and move into a share of the lead.
He has stayed under par in nine of his last ten rounds and is enjoying his return to form.
“I played great, I played solid, I was very focused on every shot,” he said. “It was not easy to be in the present but I managed the day today very well.
“I feel more comfortable on the golf course, I’m having fun. I’m feeling the shots better so to have the power to have more consistency on the shots gives me more confidence.
“It’s good to be in the mix tomorrow. I’m just going to try to do the same: stay focused shot by shot and stay patient.”
Denmark’s Niklas Nørgaard lies in third place at 11-under after closing with a 71 followed in fourth at 10-under by Germany’s Jannik De Bruyn (72) and France’s Tom Vaillant (68).
