Tyrrell Hatton posted a bogey-free 61, equalling the course record at the Old Course at St. Andrews, featuring an eagle at the par-5 5th and four consecutive birdies from the 12th. He takes a one-shot lead at 22-under heading into the final day at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The Englishman has won the event twice, in 2016 and 2017, as well as finished runner-up twice. Victory on Sunday would make him the first three-time winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
“I had actually shot ten under here before,” said Hatton. “I can’t remember if it was 2016, the year that I won.
“So yeah, I really wanted to birdie the last. That’s actually my lowest round on Tour as well. Felt like I was trying harder than I normally would for a putt on the last. Good putt and thankfully it went in. It was a cool day.”
Hatton also leads the team event with his father Jeff on 38-under.
“This is the third time I’ve played with my dad in this event. We had not made the cut until now in the team event.
“I’m sure he’s excited for tomorrow, although a bit scared, and he’ll be pretty tired, I’m sure.
“Four rounds of golf in four days is a lot of work, especially for my dad.
“So yeah, it will be fun. I’m excited to give it my best. I know I’m capable of winning around here, and ultimately I’ll just try my best each time and see how we go.”
Overnight co-leader Nicolas Colsaerts of Belgium shot a 65 at Kingsbarns featuring an eagle at the par-4 3rd and an albatross at the par-4 16th but also a double bogey at the par-4 18th to move down into second place at 21-under.

France’s Tom Vaillant also made an unfortunate double bogey at the 18th at Kingsbarns and closed with a 64 to move into third place at 19-under.
Australia’s Cameron John who held a share of the overnight lead made just one birdie and three bogeys at Carnoustie and closed with a 74 to slip down into a share of 22nd place at 12-under.
