LIV Golf UK preview: Everything you need to know

LIV Golf UK preview: Everything you need to know

The JCB Golf and Country Club is preparing to host LIV Golf UK this week

LIV Golf UK takes place just five days after the conclusion of the Open Championship in what is the final European event of the season.

Andalucia hosted the first on the continent a couple of weeks ago, where American Talor Gooch won his first LIV Golf event since the same tournament in 2023.

London plays host this week. the city hosted the inaugural LIV event in 2022, which was won by Charl Schwartzel.

The Centurion Club hosted both the 2022 and 2023 editions. But last year, JCB Golf and Country Club became the new venue for this stop on the tour.

Jon Rahm claimed victory last year by a single stroke and it played a big part in the Spaniard winning the individual title.

So far this year, it is Joaquin Niemann who is leading the way in the standings. The Chilean has won four of the ten events to establish a 12 point lead at the top.

Elsewhere, Legion XIII lead the team standings following a consistent 2025 so far. Indeed, they have finished in the top three in six of the ten events. In fact, the Rahm-fronted team have yet to finish an event lower than sixth, showcasing their incredible consistency.

The UK event is always one of the most popular on the schedule and 2025 should be no different.

Course details: JCB Golf and Country Club

The JCB Golf and Country Club will host the event for just the second time. The par-72, 7308-yard course was only opened in 2018. It was designed by Robin Hiseman and will present a tough challenge to the field this week.

The 17th is the signature hole. The 255-yard par-3 hole sits on a converted island on one of the lakes, having the potential to play a crucial part when the leaders are coming down the stretch.

If that wasn’t difficult enough, the 18th features a green guarded heavily by four intimidating bunkers, while the three-tier putting surface could see many players blow their chances right at the death.

All in all, a worthy challenge. Who will follow in Rahm’s footsteps this week? Only time will tell.

LIV Golf UK 2025: Format and prize fund

LIV Golf UK will be played over 54 holes across three days, with a shotgun start each day and no cut.

Every player in a team competes in two competitions simultaneously – individual and team – with each stroke counting in the individual event, whereas only the combined scores of the team’s top three players count for the opening two rounds.

All four scores count in the final round of each event.
