Patrick Cantlay closed with three consecutive birdies for a bogey-free, 6-under 64 and a share of the Tour Championship lead at 16-under. He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green (5.876) through three rounds.
“I’m definitely driving the ball straighter this week, which is really important around here. The rough is very penal, so you can be aggressive if you’re playing from the fairway, and I’ve been able to do that for the most part this week,” said Cantlay.
“I’ve been putting in a lot of good work, and so it’s nice to see some of that work starting to pay off.”
The American holds his seventh career 54-hole lead/co-lead on the PGA Tour (most recently at the 2024 Genesis Invitational where he finished T4. He is 3-for-6 in converting to victory.
He has recorded three top-five finishes in 18 starts this season (best: T4/Truist Championship).
Cantlay last won at the 2022 BMW Championship. Three of his last four PGA Tour titles have come in FedExCup Playoffs events: 2022 BMW Championship, 2021 Tour Championship, 2021 BMW Championship.
England’s Tommy Fleetwood fired seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey at the par-3 15th to close with a 67 and retain a share of the lead.
“I think I got on a really good run with my putting. I thought 5 was a great bounceback. I hit a really good tee shot and a good shot into the green and a good putt, so I played that hole well. 6, I hit two good shots in. But then again, 7 sort of a poorish tee shot, got away with it, holed a long putt,” said Fleetwood.
“I just think it was never a round that really flowed for me, but it was difficult. I think it was damp conditions, wasn’t cold by any means but obviously different air and windier, and I just found it a bit more difficult today.
“But the one thing I was really happy with was my putter. I felt like when I was on the green, talk about flow, things were going really well. Felt like I was reading them great and in a really good rhythm, so that was good.”
This is his fourth career 54-hole lead/co-lead on Tour and third this season (most recently at the 2025 FedEx St. Jude Championship where he finished T3).
Fleetwood seeks his maiden PGA Tour victory in his 164th career start and is the highest-ranked player in the FedExCup without a win this season. His 30 top-five finishes are the most without a victory on Tour since 1983.
36-hole co-leader Russell Henley of the United States made four birdies and three bogeys for a 69 and moved down into third place at 14-under.
After an even-par 70 in the opening round, US Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley fired an eagle at the par-5 6th as well as six birdies and one bogey to post 64-63, with the latter the low round of the day. 63 ties his low 18-hole score of the season (R3/Travelers Championship/Won).
Reigning FedExCup Champion Scottie Scheffler of the USA lies in fifth place at 12-under after starting his round with two bogeys and posting a 66 for his 20th consecutive round in the 60s, one shy of Patrick Cantlay’s record of 21.
Scheffler trailed by four strokes through three rounds of last week’s BMW Championship before going on to win. With a win on Sunday, he would become the first player (since 1983) to win on Tour in consecutive weeks when trailing by four or more strokes entering the final round.
He seeks to become the first player to win back-to-back FedExCup titles and the third player to win multiple FedExCup titles (Tiger Woods/2007, 2009; Rory McIlroy/2016, 2019, 2022).
