Legion XIII claim LIV Golf Team Championship after dramatic finale

The LIV Golf Team Championship was won by Legion XIII following a playoff against Crushers GC in Michigan

The LIV Golf Team Championship was won by Legion XIII on Sunday in what was a dramatic end to the 2025 season.

After two days of competition, the Championship bracket was made up of Legion XIII, Crushers GC and Stinger GC who all battled it out for the title on Sunday.

While Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton are the obvious stars of the expansion team, Legion XIII had to rely heavily on youngsters Tom McKibbin and Caleb Surratt during the stroke play element of the championship.

Indeed, Surratt shot 64 on the final day, while McKibbin held his nerve to shoot 65 and these two scores gave Legion XIII plenty of momentum. Especially considering the big guns weren’t quite firing.

Both Rahm and Hatton began to reel in Crushers GC towards the end of the round, as the duo birdied the final two holes.

This meant Bryson DeChambeau had to match them to force a playoff. He did so in typical DeChambeau fashion, posting a 62 in the process.

A playoff was needed to separate Legion XIII and Crushers GC

The playoff featured two players from each team and no guessing who they were. Hatton and Rahm were gunning for their first LIV Golf Team Championship. With DeChambeau and Paul Casey leading Crushers GC title charge.

On the first hole, Hatton and DeChambeau made birdies as Casey and Rahm could only make pars.

The second playoff hole saw Rahm and Hatton knocking their wedge shots tight, while the Crushers failed to match.

In the end, Legion XIII had two easy birdie putts for the victory, and they duly converted.

“The playoff was good fun,” Hatton said. “Sure, I felt nervous, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It shows that you care. Sometimes in those moments, it allows you to be, I guess, even more focused. … We’ve done very well as a team, and it feels great that we’ve ended up coming out on top this week.”

Elsewhere, in the tier two ranking bracket, Smash GC pipped Hyflyers GC and Torque GC to finish fourth.

The 4Aces GC led the tier three ranking bracket, and Rangegoats GC won tier 4 to wrap up the final event of the 2025 LIV Golf League season.
