The 2025 Ryder Cup is just a couple of weeks away, and it is hard to believe that two years have passed since Europe won on home soil.

That victory continued the unbeaten home streak. Indeed, the last time Europe suffered defeat on the continent was way back in 1993.

This time, however, a tougher challenge awaits. Bethpage Black is notoriously difficult. Combined with a boisterous New York crowd, Luke Donald’s men start as underdogs.

Keegan Bradley, at one stage, looked as though he could become the first playing captain in the Ryder Cup since Arnold Palmer in 1963. In the end, he avoided that distinction and chose six players whom he thinks can reclaim the trophy.

All of this makes the New York showdown one of the most highly anticipated Ryder Cups in recent years.

Will Donald become the first captain to win two in a row since Tony Jacklin? Or will Team USA extend their solid home record?

Course details: Bethpage Black

Bethpage Black was designed by famed golf course architect A.W. Tillinghast and opened in 1936.

It made history in 2002 when it became the first municipal golf course to host the US Open, repeating the feat in 2009. The 2019 PGA Championship was also held at the course.

Measuring in at 7,468 yards, Bethpage Black is arguably one of the toughest courses in the United States.

Indeed, with narrow fairways, thick rough and unforgiving bunkers, it could be a war of attrition between the two sides.

The Teams

Team USA

Bradley has an impressive roster of 12 players who will feel like they can win back the Ryder Cup this year.

Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, Bryson DeChambeau and Harris English all qualified automatically.

Bradley then chose Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Sam Burns, Cameron Young, Ben Griffin and Patrick Cantlay as his captain’s picks for the event.

There are four rookies in the side, while seven played in the victorious 2021 edition at Whistling Straits.

According to Data Golf, Team USA currently has a ranking of 12.0, which makes them the second best American side after that 2021 side.

Bradley has the players at his disposal to win the event, but will his captaincy end up being a success? Only time will tell.

Team Europe

Europe’s greatest strength this year lies not in the players themselves, but in the fact that there is only one change from 2023.

Rasmus Hojgaard replaces his twin brother for the event, and this continuity could work wonders as Europe chase a first win on American soil in 13 years.

Of that staggering triumph at Medinah, only Rory McIlroy remains. He is joined by fellow automatic qualifiers Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Bob MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton and Hojgaard.

Donald then chose Sepp Straka, Matt Fitzpatrick, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg, Jon Rahm and Shane Lowry as his picks.

With 11 of these players performing heroically in Rome two years ago, they know exactly what it is like to win the Ryder Cup.

Winning across the pond is a totally different challenge, however. Can they do it this time around?

How to watch the Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup takes place between 26-28 September, and viewers in the US can watch all the action on NBC, Golf Channel and USA Network.

In the UK, the competition will be shown exclusively by Sky Sports Golf. Coverage will begin at 11.30am on both Friday and Saturday, with the Sunday singles being shown from 16.30pm.
