Xander Schauffele fired six birdies and two bogeys to close with a 4-under 67 and take a share of the lead at 12-under at the Baycurrent Classic.
“This is the first time I’ve been in contention all year I believe, so it’s nice. Been playing pretty good golf. The weather’s been tricky, so proud of the fight today,” said the American.
Schauffele holds his tenth career 54-hole lead/co-lead on the PGA Tour. He is 3-for-9 to date converting to victory and seeks his tenth Tour title in his 200th start at the age of 31 (most recent: 2024 Open Championship).
201 marks his low 54-hole score on Tour this season. His career-best low 54-hole score is 193 (Won/2022 Travelers Championship). Schauffele has had three top-10 finishes in 16 starts this season (T8/Masters, T8/Genesis Scottish Open, T7/Open Championship).
He holds the most consecutive cuts made on Tour with 71 ahead of Scottie Scheffler with 64.
American Max Greyserman started the day with the solo lead and made three birdies, one bogey and one double bogey at the par-3 7th for a 71 to retain a share of the lead.
“I grinded out there. I didn’t play very well. I played fine, just made maybe two mistakes that I don’t normally make,” said Greyserman. “It was wet. It was not really cold but the ball wasn’t going very far. The course is playing really long, really, really long. Yeah, honestly, just happy to get those 18 holes over with the way I kind of was hitting the ball on some of those holes. In a good spot so nothing to worry about.
“I made a couple probably 10 to 13-ish foot par putts. It’s playing — this course is tough at times so you’re going to have some of those, so I just tried to stay mentally in it a little bit and just focus on the fact it was a birdie or par putt didn’t matter, that was the thought process.
“Obviously I think me and Xander are tied, so would have liked to push my lead further, play better today and all that stuff, but you’re not going to play great for 72 straight holes. The conditions were tough and I didn’t really adapt to the elements that well, but it’s a new day tomorrow.”
Greyserman holds his second career 54-hole lead/co-lead on Tour (2nd/2024 Wyndham Championship) and seeks his first title in his 54th start at the age of 30. He has finished runner-up four times, most recently at the 2025 Rocket Classic.
Defending champion Nico Echavarria of Colombia made one bogey and closed with a 69 for a share of third place at 9-under.
Michael Thorbjornsen of the United States made an eagle at the par-4 8th, five birdies and two bogeys for a 66 and a share of third place.
Korean Byeong Hun An also made an eagle, at the par-4 5th, five birdies and two bogeys to join the tie for third place.
South African Garrick Higgo, who finished runner-up at last week’s Sanderson Farms Championship, made two bogeys and carded a 68 to join the tie for third place.
Ren Yonezawa, one of 17 players from Japan in the field, carded a 65 for the low round of the day and lies in T10 at 7-under. 65 marks his career best low-round on Tour (previous best: 66/R2/2024 Baycurrent Classic).
