Nacho Elvira wins third DP World Tour title

Dubai Invitational R4

Nacho Elvira of Spain plays his second shot on the 17th hole on day one of the Amgen Irish Open 2025 at The K Club

Spain’s Nacho Elvira started the day leading by two shots and made three early birdies before a pair of bogeys around the turn let Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Daniel Hillier and Marcus Armitage join him at 9-under. He regained the solo lead with a birdie at the 17th then parred for a 2-under 69 to win the Dubai Invitational by one shot at 10-under.

“It means the world,” said Elvira. “If you told me on Tuesday that I’d be winning this tournament I’d have never believed you.

“It’s a dream come true, especially having the family here. I’ve always dreamed to have my kids walking up to me with a win and anything that happens after this, nothing compares to this.

“I knew at some point it was going to be difficult, especially with the great players playing in front of me. I somehow managed to make a par on ten, managed somehow to make a par on 11 and I guess I calmed down a little after this and stayed patient.

“To be honest with you, I wasn’t nervous until the very last putt – the one-footer I had for the win. I knew what I needed to do, I knew I needed to be patient.

“I think there are so many positives from this week and I couldn’t be more happier.”

New Zealand’s Hillier signed for a bogey-free 65 featuring an eagle at the par-5-13th to finish solo second at 9-under.

Ireland’s Lowry fired five birdies, one bogey and a double bogey at the par-4 18th to close with a 69 and a share of third place at 8-under alongside Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy who made six birdies, five of them consecutively from the 9th, as well as three bogeys for a 68.

Also tied in third place were Spain’s David Puig who made one bogey for a 67 and France’s Julien Guerrier who recovered from a double bogey at the par-4 2nd with seven birdies, four of them in a row from the 10th, for a 66.
