Third PGA Tour title for Chris Gotterup

Sony Open in Hawaii R4

Chris Gotterup of the United States reacts to his putt on the tenth green during the final round of the Sony Open in Hawaii

Chris Gotterup started the day in T6, one shot behind the lead, and fired seven birdies and one bogey to match his low final-round score with a 6-under 64 and win the Sony Open in Hawaii by two strokes at 16-under.

He led the field in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (4.352); T1 in sand saves (6-of-6).

“Kind of was one of those days where like it felt like to me that I got off to a good to start, which was important, but it felt like it was kind of just like stalled and it was anyone’s tournament,” said Gotterup. “Then I kind of made a couple nice putts and I saw a couple people drop back. I know Ryan played a great tournament and he tried to make a run at the end. Couple other guys played great and I just held them off.

“18 for me, in the past I tried to hit driver over the corner and could not hit the fairway. That rough through the fairway is no good. For me we just took something that was guaranteed to be in the fairway. Whether I had 250 in, we sucked it up and took 250 in. I felt like I had a better chance of playing well on that hole having 250 in than trying to needle something up the left and have 180 in. And today was — I would’ve gone for it if I needed to make a birdie.

“I just laid up because you can get a nasty lie in the rough, and I’m going to try to minimize any mistake I can make coming up the stretch. I knew what Ryan did and, yeah, we just played it smarter today. The other day I hit 4-iron too and hit 4-iron into the green and got up and down for birdie, so it was a lot more strategy this year. I feel like I got better at the courses that I gone to learning from my mistakes in the past and trying to mesh playing aggressive and conservative.

“Having a win or two under your belt always helps, coming down the stretch knowing that you’ve done it and that you’re able to execute under pressure. I felt like I did a great job of that today.”

A two-stroke win is the largest margin of victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii since 2019 (Matt Kuchar/four strokes). Gotterup is now fully exempt on the PGA Tour through 2028.

This was the American’s third win in his 69th start at the age of 26 years, 5 months, 29 days (previous wins: 2024 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, 2025 Genesis Scottish Open) and his second win in his last eight starts after earning one win in his first 61 starts.

Gotterup had not previously won when trailing entering the final round (54-hole positions of wins: led at the 2024 ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic, was T1 at the 2025 Genesis Scottish Open, was T2 at the 2026 Sony Open Hawaii).

He is the first player since Tom Kim (2023 Shriners Children’s Open/44th start) to earn his first three wins in fewer than 70 starts.

Ryan Gerard closed with 65 having made one bogey, his lowest final-round score on Tour, to finish second at 14-under. He matched his low 72-hole score in an individual stroke play event (2025 Texas Children’s Houston Open/finished 9th) and notched his third top-two finish in his 54th start (previous instances: 1st /2025 Barracuda Championship, 2nd /2025 Valero Texas Open).

Patrick Rodgers carded a bogey-free 65 to finish third at 13-under, his 31st top-10 finish in his 313th start, the most top-10 finishes on Tour without a win among active players (since 1983). He also owns the most starts without a win among active players (since 1983).

The only non-American in the top-5, Scot Robert MacIntyre, shot the low round of the day, a bogey-free 63, to finish T4 at 12-under alongside an equally bogey-free Jacob Bridgeman who shot a 64.

This was MacIntyre’s third top-three finish in his last nine starts on Tour (previously: 2nd /2025 US Open, 2nd /2025 BMW Championship).

54-hole leader Davis Riley posted a 1-over 71 having made four birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey at the par-4 8th. He falls to 1-for-3 when leading/co-leading entering the final round (2022 Valspar Championship/2nd, 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge/1st, 2025 Sony Open in Hawaii/T6).

Aon Swing 5

The Sony Open in Hawaii, the first event of the 2026 PGA Tour Season, was the first opportunity for players to earn FedExCup points towards the Aon Swing 5 with entry into each of the next two Signature Events (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational).

The top five players, not otherwise exempt, who earn the most FedExCup points during the Sony Open in Hawaii, The American Express, Farmers Insurance Open and the WM Phoenix Open will qualify for those two events.
