Robert MacIntyre had made five pars and one bogey through six holes at the Valero Texas Open before play was suspended due to the weather and retains a two-shot lead at 15-under.

He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Approach the Green (6.873) and ranks third in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (9.609).

In six starts this season on the PGA Tour, he has had two top-10 finishes (T4/Sony Open in Hawaii, 4th/The Players Championship).

Sweden’s Ludvig Åberg made three birdies through six holes and lies in solo second place at 13-under. He leads the field this week in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (3.177) and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green (9.687).

England’s Matt Wallace moved into T3 and sits at 11-under with four holes remaining, highlighted by eagles at the par-5s 8th and 14th. This marks his third career round on Tour with two eagles (2024 RBC Canadian Open/R1, World Wide Technology Championship/R4). He has never recorded three eagles in a round in 454 career rounds (stroke-play events only).

Japan’s Ryo Hisatsune also moved into T3 with four birdies and one bogey through eight holes.

England’s Marco Penge is ties in fifth place at 10-under having opened his third round with a 6-under 30 (teed off on No. 10), including a career-best six consecutive birdies from the 13th (previous best birdie streak: 3, 2026 Genesis Invitational/R2).

Due to inclement weather, the third round was suspended at 11:51 a.m. CT, with the entire field yet to complete the round (first groups off are through 14 holes; final group is through six holes). At 4:52 p.m., tournament officials announced that play would be suspended for the day and resume Sunday at 7:45 a.m. local time. Final-round tee times are scheduled for approximately 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. off split tees and groups will not be re-paired following the third round.

“The golf course just can’t take anymore. We’re already over an inch of rain. The prediction was somewhere around a quarter. We thought the front was going to come through quick and we would be playing golf in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the system has stalled out on us and we continue to get these heavy showers with some embedded lightning,” said Chief Referee Ken Tackett.

“The weather is not great tomorrow, but it’s better than today. There’s a 30 percent chance roughly that we’ll have showers throughout the day, a low likelihood of lightning. ”

Five of the nine players who currently sit 10-under or better have not yet qualified for next week’s Masters Tournament: Matt Wallace (T3/-11), Ryo Hisatsune (T3/-11), Chris Kirk (T5/-10), Chandler Phillips (T5/-10), Tony Finau (T5/-10).

The last spot in the Masters Tournament is available to the winner of the Valero Texas Open if not otherwise qualified. Three of the last six winners of the Valero Texas Open qualified for the Masters Tournament with their victory (2019/Corey Conners, 2022/J.J. Spaun, 2024/Akshay Bhatia).
