Matthew Southgate closed with a nine-under-par 62 at Golf Sempach to win the Swiss Challenge by eight strokes, claiming his maiden HotelPlanner Tour title.
Southgate finished at 23 under par after rounds of 66, 64, 69 and 62 on the Woodside Course in Lucerne, the longest championship course in Switzerland. His final-round 62 left seven players sharing second place at 15 under.
Final round
George Bloor had entered Sunday with a one-shot lead after three rounds, but a closing 71 dropped the Englishman into the tie for second alongside Hamish Brown (Denmark), Tom Sloman (England), Julian Perico (Peru), Tadeas Tetak (Slovakia), Martin Vorster (South Africa) and Marc Warren (Scotland).
Bloor had spoken after his third round about sticking to the same approach. “My game plan won’t change going into tomorrow,” he said before the final round. “
My game has been in a good place, I will manage myself, manage my ball and give myself plenty of chances.
Warren posted the best final round among those tied for second, shooting 63 on Sunday to climb from further down the leaderboard.
