Steven Alker Wins NI Legends to Complete Three-Victory Run

The New Zealander recovered from an opening bogey and held off Hennie Otto’s closing 64 to secure a two-shot victory at Galgorm.

Steven Alker won the NI Legends at Galgorm on Sunday, completing three consecutive senior victories with a composed final-round 67.

The New Zealander finished 15-under par in Co. Antrim, two shots ahead of South Africa’s Hennie Otto, whose 8-under 64 established the clubhouse target at 13-under.

Anthony Wall and Phillip Archer shared third place on 12-under. Thomas Gögele and Mikael Lundberg finished another shot behind, with Lundberg matching Otto’s 64 to climb through the field.

Alker arrived at Galgorm following back-to-back victories on the PGA Tour Champions. He had also won his previous appearance on the Staysure Legends Tour.

“It’s pretty special, three in a row doesn’t happen very often so you’ve got to make the most of it,” Alker said. “It was a tough day, it got pretty close.”

Alker recovers from early setback

Alker had held at least a share of the lead after each of the opening two rounds, but his advantage disappeared quickly on Sunday. He bogeyed the first before playing partner David Drysdale holed a curling 20-foot birdie putt to move clear.

Wall also applied early pressure with birdies on his opening three holes. Greg Owen, Gögele and Lundberg joined him on 10-under as the leaderboard tightened.

Alker responded with three birdies around the turn and regained a lead he would keep for the remainder of the round. His birdie at the par-5 16th proved decisive after he struck a three-wood into position and hit his wedge approach to about five feet.

“The birdie on 16 was huge for me,” Alker said. “That meant I didn’t have to birdie 18. It’s always nice when you don’t need to birdie the last.”

Otto sets the clubhouse target

Otto shot 65 on Saturday. The three-time DP World Tour winner drew level with Alker midway through the New Zealander’s back nine.

A missed birdie putt at the 18th left Otto on 13-under and gave Alker a one-shot cushion before the leader completed his round.

“The greens are unbelievable and if you hit it close you can make the putts,” Otto said. “I just tried to be positive on the greens and it certainly did over the last two days.”

Drysdale could not sustain his early momentum. The joint overnight leader closed with a 73 and finished on 9-under alongside fellow Scot Alastair Forsyth.

Lundberg’s tie for fifth moved him to the top of the 2026 Order of Merit. He and Stephen Gallacher both passed Jamie Donaldson, who did not compete at Galgorm.

The Staysure Legends Tour will resume later in September with the European Legends Cup in Spain.
