Sepp Straka started the day in a tie for second place five shots behind the lead and tapped in for birdie at the 18th to win the Honda Classic by one shot.

“It’s crazy. It’s a lifelong dream of mine just to be heading to Augusta in a month or so. It’s still surreal. I’m sure it’ll sink in here before long, but yeah, it’s just crazy.”

He shot five birdies and two bogeys on Sunday for a final round 66 to reach 10-under at PGA National and win his first PGA Tour title. He is the first Austrian player to win on Tour.

 

“I knew going into the round that I had a chance. This course is crazy. There’s no gimme holes at all. You’ve got to be on it.

“And there was only one guy I thought ahead of me, so I knew if I just kept my head down and just tried to score maybe the best score I could on every hole, just try to make the best swing I could, in the end there was a good chance of being there.”

Ireland’s Shane Lowry closed with a bogey-free round, his third consecutive 67, to finish second at 9-under.

“Probably played some of best golf my whole career this week I feel around a very tough golf course. And, you know, I’ll take that into The Players, and hopefully I can have a good week there.”

American Kurt Kitayama, who led after the first round, carded a 68 to finish third at 8-under.

Fellow American and overnight leader Daniel Berger produced a double bogey at the par-5 third hole followed by two bogeys before making his first of two birdies for the round as well as two more bogeys to close with a 74 and finished fourth at 7-under.
