Marcus Kinhult started the day in a share of second place one shot behind the lead and made the most of the cooler morning temperatures. He produced seven birdies and three bogeys to close with a 4-under 68 and take a three-shot lead at 11-under at the Alfred Dunhill Championship.
“It was hot,” said the Swede. “It was actually OK this morning, I would say, but after five or six holes I got the umbrella up and tried to hide under that for most of the day.
“It was a good day so I’m happy.
“Yesterday was really good, I’m super happy with that round. I feel like I played well today also but I didn’t quite take advantage of the par fives today. I think that was the only difference.
“But I’m not upset. It was a good score today and I’m looking forward to two more rounds. Hopefully we can keep improving and we’ll see where that takes us.”
Kinhult has won once previously on the DP World Tour, at the 2019 Betfred British Masters.
England’s Dale Whitnell made two bogeys and closed with a 67 for a share of second place at 8-under alongside Italy’s Andrea Pavan, who made one bogey and one double bogey at the par-5 18th for a 69, and South African Dean Burmester who made just one bogey for his 67.
Overnight leader Andy Sullivan made just three birdies and four bogeys to close with a 73 and move down into a share of fifth place at 7-under alongside nine other players including fellow Englishmen Matthew Southgate who stayed bogey-free for a 67 and Alex Fitzpatrick who closed with a 72 featuring four birdies, a bogey and a triple bogey at the par-3 7th.
