Nacho Elvira started the day with a six shot lead that quickly shrank. He made the turn in 36 after playing three birdies and three bogeys followed by two birdies and two bogeys to close with a 72.

Justin Harding was T2 six shots behind after the third round and shot a 65 to reach 16-under and join Elvira in a playoff. Harding bogeyed the first extra hole while Elvira parred for victory in the Cazoo Open supported by Gareth Bale.

"It means the world. That's what we practise for and what we strive for. We try to win, to be at the best level on the European Tour and play with the best. It means the world to me."

Cazoo Open 2021 R4

Having previously come second three times on the European Tour, twice in a playoff, he hadn't finished in the top-10 in over two years and had missed the cut nine times in his last eleven starts. This maiden title on the European Tour comes in his 195th attempt. He becomes the third wire-to-wire winner this season and the second Spanish winner following Miguel Ángel Jiménez in 2005.

"It was tougher than I thought, it 's golf and you have to play 72 holes. I was playing with Callum, he was playing great – he was hitting at every pin and trying to catch some ground. I had a little bit of a shaky start and woke up on number six, then started playing some solid golf. I missed a couple of shots. I was trying to be not too aggressive. I think the putter wasn't as sharp today as it was the last two days, you could see that on 18, obviously. After six I was pretty relaxed until 18, the last three putts were tough. I don' t think I 've ever been nervous , and I'm not ashamed to admit I was quite nervous."

"I was more relaxed in the playoff than I was in regulation. I hit a good drive, just a little bit left, and I didn' t catch a good lie – on the rough. I had good distance to go for it, but the lie wasn 't good enough. I saw Justin laid up, so decided to get a good yardage and try to hit a great shot – that 's what I did. After that I hit a great putt, just a little bit short."

Mikko Korhonen signed for a 66 to finish third at 15-under, Callum Shinkwin (67) fourth at 14-under, Masahiro Kawamura (67) fifth at 12-under and Chase Hanna (70) tied with Sam Horsfield (69) for sixth at 11-under.
