Pieter Moolman made three birdies and two bogeys in his first ten holes but closed with six consecutive birdies for an 8-under 64 and a one-shot lead at the D+D REAL Czech Masters.
“I expected the back nine to be the tougher nine, but you know, golf’s a funny game,” said the South African.
“I hit some good shots, but you’re not shooting 29 if you’re not making putts. The putter was definitely involved, but just staying patient and giving yourself chances.
“The front nine is a bit open, you can bomb it a bit. The back nine is the tougher one where you have to really hit some good shots, give yourself good opportunities.
“I think I’m one of the lucky ones, to tee off first. It’s not the first time, it’s not the last time. I’m pretty sure most golfers are used to it.”
England’s Brandon Robinson Thompson almost took a share of the lead but a bogey at the 18th resulted in a 65 for a share of second place at 7-under alongside Scotland’s Richie Ramsay, Sweden’s Jesper Svensson, South Korean Sung Kang and Germany’s Max Rottluff and Max Kieffer.
