England’s Justin Rose carded a bogey-free, 10-under 62 on the North Course at Torrey Pines to take a one-shot lead at the Farmers Insurance Open.

“Obviously delighted to kind of go out there and make the most of a perfect day. I mean, it was just such an enjoyable round of golf. You know, great views. It’s one of my favorite venues on Tour. It’s been a spotty venue for me through the years, I feel like I’ve either played great or not here, so nice to get off to a good start. North Course clearly is one that you want to try to make the most of and it’s great to do that today for sure,” said Rose.

“The weather was stunning, it was like zero wind to start with, and when the wind did start blowing a little bit out of the northwest, it actually suits the North Course really well. Some of the shorter par-5s, the drivable par-4 eighth hole, they actually played down off the right. So that’s a very comfortable wind for a lot of guys out here. So yeah, what wind there was was kind of suited to the golf course, too.”

He leads the field in birdies, including the four par-3 holes on the North Course.

Rose, the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open winner, is one of seven past champions in the field and has had four top-10s in 15 starts at the event.

“It feels like a similar weather week to when I won,” he added, “and I feel like it was the kind of week that you had to kind of keep going low and keep playing well. I think I got it to 21 under par at some point during the tournament, so you know this tournament can also be a tournament where you feel like 9, 10, 11 under par’s a really good week.

“So it will be interesting to see how the course plays, if the greens get really firm on the South over the weekend makes it always tough. So it’s going to be a balance of being able to play some great golf because of the conditions, but also respecting a major championship style track. So I’m excited for three rounds on the North, excuse me, on the South and just try to build some momentum with it all.”

The 12-time PGA Tour winner most recently won the first FedExCup Playoffs event of the 2025 season, defeating J.J. Spaun at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Since 1988, the Farmers Insurance Open has had only one winner who held the first-round lead/co-lead and went on to win: Patrick Reed (2021).

With eagles on the par-5s 17th and 9th on the North Course, American Justin Lower recorded two eagles in a round for the second time in his career in his 374th round (other: 2025 American Express/R1). He also fired six birdies and one bogey for a 63 and lies in second place at 9-under.

Max Greyserman of the USA made a bogey at the final hole of the North Course for a 64 and a share of third place at 8-under. He has recorded five runner-up finishes in 56 starts (2024 3M Open, 2024 Wyndham Championship, 2024 Baycurrent Classic, 2025 Rocket Classic, 2025 Baycurrent Classic).

Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, also on the North Course, eagled the par-5 5th and made one bogey for his 64.

Defending champion Harris English of the United States posted a 1-over 73 at the South Course having made two birdies and three bogeys and lies in T102 at 1-0ver. He has had three top-10 finishes in twelve appearances at the Farmers Insurance Open (others: T2/2015, T8/2018).

Making his first start in a non-major on the PGA Tour since the 2022 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play (a span of 1,404 days) via the Returning Member Program, American Brooks Koepka also opened with a 1-over 73 at the South Course. The nine-time winner is making his 187th Tour start and fifth at the Farmers Insurance Open where he has made the cut once (T41/2015).
