The Genesis Invitational R2

Marco Penge of England tees off on the 16th hole on day four of the Open de España presented by Madrid at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid

England’s Marco Penge signed for a bogey-free, 7-under 64, a career low round on the PGA Tour, to move into a share of the lead at 12-under at the Genesis Invitational.

“I think my driving has been kind of the way I normally drive the ball. It’s definitely the best part of my game by far. But the way I putted, you know, especially inside 10 feet, and my pace behind it has been really on point,” said Penge.

“So short game has been tidy, iron play’s been a bit up and down, but I feel like I’ve tied them together really well.”

130 marks his career low 36-hole score on Tour (previous best: 132, 2025 Genesis Scottish Open).

Penge holds his first career 36-hole lead/co-lead after any round on Tour in his 26th round (previous best 36-hole position: T3/2025 Genesis Scottish Open/finished T2).

He earned his PGA Tour card via the 2025 DP World Tour Top 10, claiming the No. 1 position. He is making his fourth start this season (MC/Farmers Insurance Open, MC/WM Phoenix Open, T64/AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am).

“In terms of my game, the greens have been really firm when we played in Phoenix, which we don’t see that in Europe. I know we’ve had a lot of rain the last couple of days so the greens are really soft here, something that I feel a lot more comfortable with,” he added.

“But I think just I need to adapt my game a little bit for here. Hitting full wedge shots is pretty key whereas in Europe taking the spin off is really key. It’s kind of one end of the spectrum to the other.

“Winning three times, finishing second in the Scottish Open against a field that’s similar to the PGA Tour and having a good week at the PGA was pretty good for my confidence as well.

“So I feel like I proved myself a little bit before I stepped foot over here, but I’m still, I still need to prove to myself that I’m good enough to play against these guys week in and week out. I don’t doubt that I am, but I feel there’s parts of my game that need to be way better. I’m looking forward to the process of that. And regardless of how this year goes, this is a year that I’ll never forget and can always say that I played on the PGA Tour.”

Penge qualified for the first two Signature Events of 2026 (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, The Genesis Invitational) by virtue of being the leading player in the final 2025 Race to Dubai Rankings who did not finish inside the top 50 in that season’s FedExCup.

American Jacob Bridgeman also signed for a 64, featuring an eagle at the par-5 1st and two bogeys and tying his career low 18-hole score to take a share of the lead. He leads the field in Strokes Gained: Putting (7.498).

He holds his second 36-hole lead/co-lead (2025 Valspar Championship). 130 matches his career low 36-hole score in stroke-play events (2026 American Express/finished T13). His career-best result was T2 at the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches.

Bridgeman has had two top-10s in four starts this season (T4/Sony Open in Hawaii, T8/AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am).

Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy carded a bogey-free 65, highlighted by an eagle at the par-5 11th, to move into third place. 11-under sets his low 36-hole score to par at The Genesis Invitational (previous best 36-hole score to par: 7-under, twice/2019, 2020).

American Xander Schauffele made an eagle at the par-5 1st as well as five birdies and one bogey for a 65 and a share of fourth place at 9-under, marking his 17th round in the 60s in 30 career rounds at The Genesis Invitational.

Two-time Genesis Invitational champion (2020, 2005/unofficial) and sponsor exemption Adam Scott of Australia posted a 63 highlighted by two eagles at the par-5s 1st and 11th as well as five birdies and one bogey at the 18th for his share of fourth place. This marks his ninth round with multiple eagles in 1,500 career rounds.

Defending champion Ludvig Åberg of Sweden made two bogeys and closed with a 68 to lie in T25 at 2-under.

World No. 1 and 20-time PGA Tour winner Scottie Scheffler of the USA carded a 68 in the second round to make the cut on the number and extend his streak to 68 consecutive cuts made, the longest active streak on Tour.
