Houston Open 2021 R4
November 11-14
Memorial Park Golf Course, Houston, Texas
$7,500,000
Round 1, Round 2, Round 3

Estimated reading time: 7 minutes

Jason Kokrak started the day two shots behind overnight leader Scottie Scheffler and was still two behind with six holes to play. He produced four consecutive birdies from the 13th and closed with two pars for a 65 to reach 10-under and win by two shots ahead of an all-American top-14.

"My game was not in top form [this week] and I definitely made the best of it, made a lot of birdies, made a lot of nice putts. The putter was hot this week and tried to give my self as many looks as possible, and when I was out of position, I just tried to limit the stress."

Houston Open 2021 R4

Kokrak turned professional in 2008 and made over two hundred starts before winning his first PGA Tour title. He has now won three times following the 2021 CJ Cup @ Shadow Creek and the Charles Schwab Challenge.

"After Colonial I drove it pretty good, but I ended up cracking the driver I can't remember how long after, but I struggled to find the one that I was really comfor table with. This week I drove it much better and hit the irons really good and putted well. I didn't pitch it very well at all, but I tried to limit that. That's why I kind of laid it up on a few of those holes down in the back nine, I knew I was hitting t he ball solid and I just wanted to give myself looks around this golf course is key."

Scheffler fired five birdies and four bogeys to close with a 69 and a share of second place at 8-under alongside Kevin Tway (68) followed by Kramer Hickock (69) in fourth place at 7-under.

"So I'll take from this I felt like I played a lot of good golf this week without really my best stuff," said Scheffler. "I really felt uncomfortable with my ball-striking going into the week, but I gave myself a chance to win here in the end, I put myself in position on Sunday. I'd say today I just probably didn't make enough putts. Outside of that, I definitely played good enough to win."

Martin Trainer, who had only made nine cuts since his 2019 victory in the Puerto Rico Open, briefly held the lead after a 70-foot birdie putt at the 11th but had to settle for a share of fifth place at 6-under alongside Joel Dahmen (65) after making three bogeys over the last five holes.
