How many LIV Golfers will play at the 2025 US Open?

A host of LIV Golfers will be eyeing US Open glory at Oakmont this week

A total of 14 LIV Golfers will tee it up at the US Open this week as Oakmont is set to host the toughest test in golf.

Indeed, the venue – which is set to host the tournament for a record-extending tenth time – will be more than just stern this week.

Five-inch rough, lightning quick greens and a total of 168 bunkers, including the famous Church Pew bunker between the third and fourth fairway, the course will be hell on earth.

The field is now set for the third major championship of the year and all eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler.

Challengers include Rory McIlroy, Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele, although the bumper LIV Golf contingent will be eyeing US Open glory.

From Jon Rahm to Jinichiro Kozuma, all 14 of the breakaway tour stars will be looking to follow in Bryson DeChambeau’s footsteps from 2024. But just who else is taking part?

Bryson DeChambeau

DeChambeau has won this tournament twice, in 2020 and 2024, and is bidding to join an elusive club this week.

Only Willie Anderson, Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Hale Irwin and Tiger Woods have won the US Open three or more times.

He finished T15 last time out at Oakmont and after a runners-up finish at the PGA last month, DeChambeau is ready to defend his title.

Jon Rahm

Rahm won this competition in 2021, claiming his first major title in the process. Since joining LIV Golf, his major form has been a concern.

That changed at Quail Hollow last month. The Spaniard looked set to challenge Scheffler, but he dropped shots on the final two holes to drop back to finish T8.

If he gets off to a hot start, he might have a good shot at another US Open this week.

Brooks Koepka

The American won this event in 2017 and 2018, although he hasn’t challenged since 2021.

He missed the cut at both the Masters and PGA this year and if he does the same again this week, it will be the first time he misses three major cuts in a row.

Dustin Johnson

Johnson was the victor here in 2016. It was a long time coming for the American and who can forget his stunning approach to the last? Especially given the circumstances.

A potential one-shot penalty was hanging over him after he moved the ball earlier in his round. Despite this, he birdied the 18th to secure the win.

Cameron Smith

Smith is in the field courtesy of his victory at the 2022 Open Championship. His record in majors since then isn’t the most encouraging.

The Aussie has recorded just three top-ten finishes in his previous ten majors, although one was at the 2023 US Open.

Phil Mickelson

Mickelson’s exemption into the US Open runs out after this year and it looks as though Oakmont could be his final chance at winning the tournament.

The American has finished runner-up six times in his national open and it looks destined that he wont get his hands on the trophy.

Tyrrell Hatton

Hatton is in the field due to being in the top 60 on the Official World Golf Ranking as of May 20.

He has one top-ten in the US Open and that came all the way back in 2018.

Patrick Reed

Reed qualifies due to also being in the top 60 on the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of May.

At the Masters, he finished third after a wonderful tournament, but missed the cut at the PGA last month.

Richard Bland

Bland won the Senior US Open in 2024 which secured his spot at Oakmont this week.

Carlos Ortiz

Oritz managed to come through final qualifying in order to book his place at the US Open.

Marc Leishman

Leishman won a 3-for-2 playoff at final qualifying to secure his first major appearance since the 2022 Open Championship.

Jinichiro Kozuma

Kozuma was another that came through final qualifying to tee it up at Oakmont.

Jose Ballester

Ballester LIV Golf’s newest signing. The reigning US Amateur champion signed a professional contract with Fireballs GC, captained by Sergio Garcia.

This will be his third major appearance.

Joaquin Niemann

Niemann is on fire in the 2025 LIV Golf League. Across eight events so far, he has won four of them.

He qualified for the US Open due to being the top player not exempt in top 3 of the 2025 LIV Golf Individual Standings as of May 19
