LIV Golfer David Puig has been awarded an invite to the upcoming PGA Championship by the PGA of America.
The Spaniard missed the Masters tournament last month, but shared the news that he would be playing at Quail Hollow next week on his Instagram, saying: “Next up @pgachampionship! ! Let’s go! ! !”.
It marks the second year in a row that Puig has received a special invitation to the second major of the year. He failed to make the cut at Valhalla in 2024, shooting rounds of 72 and 73.
Puig has made just two cuts in the four majors he has played in, at the 2023 and 2024 U.S. Opens. After an impressive start to the season, could he make his mark in Charlotte?
David Puig enters the PGA Championship in good form
Puig became the first ever amateur golfer to go straight from college into the LIV Golf League in September 2022.
Financially, the deal made perfect sense. Although the PGA Tour immediately suspended him, hence the reason why he has played in just four major championships.
He signed up to join Fireballs GC, led by compatriot Sergio Garcia, in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since.
The 23-year-old won his first professional event at the 2023 International Series Singapore on the Asian Tour. Following this up with a victory a few months later at the IRS Prima Malaysian Open in April 2024.
While he has yet to win an induvial LIV Golf event, Puig has been part of several team victories with Fireballs GC, most notably this season.
His consistency has been arguably the most impressive facet of the Spaniard’s game. Across seven tournaments in the 2025 season, Puig has finished inside the top 20 in all of them.
Fourth in Adelaide and Singapore are his best results. Don’t be surprised to see him claim a victory before the end of the season.
Before the next event, however, Puig has the PGA Championship to look forward to.
Tom McKibbin also receives invitation to the PGA Championship
According to the BBC, Northern Irishman Tom Mckibbin has also received an invitation to the PGA next week.
He joined LIV Golf earlier this year, skipping what would have been his debut season on the PGA Tour.
McKibbin has secured just two top-ten finishes on the breakaway circuit and will head into the second major of the year after recording a 47th place finish in South Korea.
Dustin Johnson has also been offered a special invitation to compete at Quail Hollow according to Flushing IT.
His major exemption ran out following Rory McIlroy’s Masters win last month. This invite keeps his eight-year streak at the majors alive.
